Ocean Nutrition Frozen Daphnia
A fibre-rich frozen food for small freshwater fish. Ocean Nutrition Frozen Daphnia is a 100 g pack of whole frozen daphnia – a single-ingredient food naturally high in carotenoids, used to support colour in small to medium freshwater fish. It's sized for community and nano freshwater tanks rather than large predatory species.
Key features
- Single ingredient – daphnia only – nothing else in the pack.
- Naturally high in carotenoids – supports natural colour enhancement rather than relying on artificial colour additives.
- Small particle size (2–3 mm) – suits small to medium freshwater fish rather than large-mouthed species.
- 35-cube blister pack – portion one cube at a time.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Ideal for most small to medium freshwater fish, and useful where you want to support natural colour without reaching for an artificial colour-enhancing food. Not intended for marine systems, and the small particle size means large predatory fish will get little benefit from it compared with a coarser frozen food.
Feeding and thawing
Feed two to five times a day, offering only what fish will finish within about five minutes. Ocean Nutrition's feeding directions for this product don't specifically address thawing; the safer default with a frozen cube like this is to thaw a portion in a little tank water before feeding, rather than dropping it in frozen, and to never refreeze any thawed portion.
Warranty, delivery and storage
Keep frozen until use, and never refreeze once thawed. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in addition to anything stated here.
Frozen food is pick up only from our North Lakes store, because a pack that thaws on the way cannot be refrozen.
Common questions
How often should I feed daphnia?
Ocean Nutrition's directions say two to five times a day, in an amount your fish will finish within about five minutes.
Will this help bring out colour in my fish?
Daphnia is naturally high in carotenoids, the pigments behind a lot of natural red and orange colouration in fish, so regular feeding can support colour over time – it isn't an instant fix.
Can I use this in a marine tank?
No – daphnia is a freshwater zooplankton and this product is intended for freshwater systems.
Is daphnia food safe for fry?
At roughly 2–3 mm the particle size suits small to medium fish rather than newly hatched fry, which need something finer.
Goes well with
Rotates well with other Ocean Nutrition frozen foods to broaden the diet beyond a single zooplankton species.
