Ocean Nutrition frozen whole cockle
Whole frozen cockles for predatory marine fish that need a bigger bite. Ocean Nutrition Whole Cockles is a single-ingredient frozen food – whole shellfish around 2–3 cm across, best offered on a feeding prong for fish that hunt their food rather than graze it. Supplied frozen in a 100g blister pack.
Key features
- Single ingredient – whole cockles, nothing else added.
- Whole shellfish, ~2–3 cm – sized for fish that take a real bite, not a mouthful of mush.
- Works on a feeding prong – holds together on a skewer or feeding stick for predatory and target-fed species.
- Marine and freshwater – suits larger fish in either setup.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for larger predatory marine and freshwater fish able to take a whole 2–3 cm piece of shellfish, especially target-fed on a prong.
- Not suitable for small-mouthed or nano fish – the whole pieces are too large; a chopped or minced frozen food is a better fit for those tanks.
How to thaw and feed
Thaw a portion in a little tank water and feed, or thread a piece onto a feeding prong or skewer for target feeding. Ocean Nutrition's own guidance is that thawed frozen food can only be safely refrozen if it still contains ice crystals, or is cold to the touch and has been kept below 7°C for under two hours – once it has thawed fully and warmed past that, feed it or discard it, never refreeze it. Keep the pack frozen between feeds, and move it to your own freezer as soon as it arrives if it starts to soften in transit.
Warranty and delivery
There's no manufacturer warranty on a food item as such – the applicable guarantee is the consumer guarantee under Australian Consumer Law that the food is of acceptable quality and matches its description. Keep it frozen until use.
Frozen food is pick up only from our North Lakes store, because a pack that thaws on the way cannot be refrozen.
Common questions
What fish is this suited to?
Larger predatory marine and freshwater fish that can take a whole 2–3 cm piece – lionfish, larger wrasses, puffers, groupers and similar species are typical.
Can I feed this on a feeding stick?
Yes – whole cockles hold together well on a feeding prong or skewer, which is useful for target feeding shy or slow feeders.
Is this suitable for small fish?
No. The pieces are whole shellfish around 2–3 cm – too large for small-mouthed or nano species.
Can I refreeze a thawed portion?
Only if it still has ice crystals or has stayed below 7°C for under two hours. Once fully thawed and past that, feed it or throw it out.
