Red Sea Reef Wave 25 - 7500 L/Hr
Random, natural reef flow, controlled from your phone. The Red Sea ReefWave 25 is a magnet-mounted gyre pump rated to 7,500 L/h, built for tanks from 45 cm to 120 cm (1.5–4 ft) along its mounting wall. It runs on Red Sea's ReefBeat app, delivering randomised, direction-alternating wave patterns rather than a single fixed jet, and adjusts from 10% to 100% intensity so the same pump can suit a lightly-stocked community tank or a demanding SPS reef.
Key features
- Gyre cross-flow design – moves a broad, low-velocity mass of water rather than one narrow jet, spreading flow more evenly and avoiding blasting fish or corals directly.
- 10–100% adjustable intensity – run it gently in a nano community tank or flat out in an SPS-dominated reef, from the same pump.
- Forward, reverse and alternating modes – forward flow runs roughly 3× stronger than reverse, so alternating mode genuinely varies direction rather than pulsing the same jet.
- ReefBeat app control – build a schedule of up to 10 time-slots a day, or run one of Red Sea's preset wave programs.
- Feed mode – pauses flow for 30 minutes so food doesn't get blown straight into an overflow.
- Multi-pump sync – group up to 3 ReefWave pumps for coordinated patterns across a wider tank.
- Magnetic mount rated through glass or acrylic up to 15 mm thick – no drilling, no in-tank bracket.

Performance – flow and tank size
Red Sea rates the ReefWave 25 for tanks from 45 cm to 120 cm along the mounting wall, at a maximum output of 7,500 L/h. Intensity is adjustable across the full 10–100% range from the ReefBeat app or the onboard controller, so the same pump can run gently in a small, lightly-stocked tank or at full output in a larger, high-flow reef. Forward flow is roughly three times stronger than reverse, which is what makes the alternating and randomised wave modes feel like a genuine current shift rather than a pulse on the same jet. Red Sea does not publish an intermediate flow-rate table between 10% and 100% – treat the percentage as the pump's own reference scale rather than a fixed L/h figure at each step.
For tanks toward the top of the 120 cm range, or wide tanks rather than long ones, running two ReefWave 25 units synced through the app generally gives more even coverage than one pump at full intensity.
Which one do I need? ReefWave 25 vs ReefWave 45
Both pumps share the same gyre design, app and control range – the difference is scale. The 25 suits tanks 45–120 cm; step up to the 45 once your tank runs past about 120 cm, or where you want the same coverage at a lower percentage of the pump's maximum output.
| ReefWave 25 | ReefWave 45 | |
|---|---|---|
| Max flow | 7,500 L/h | 15,000 L/h |
| Power consumption | 4–25 W | 8–45 W |
| Recommended tank size | 45–120 cm (1.5–4 ft) | 60–200 cm (2–6 ft) |

| Warranty | 24 months | 24 months |
As a rule of thumb, match the pump to your tank's longest dimension using the recommended range above; a tank at the top of a model's range may get more even coverage from two smaller pumps than from one pump run flat out.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for marine and freshwater aquariums from around 45 cm up to 120 cm, including SPS and LPS reef systems that need strong, randomised flow. Not intended as a return pump or for plumbed-in filtration – it's a standalone circulation pump, mounted directly in the display.
Running costs
Rated power consumption is 4–25 W depending on intensity. Run continuously at the full 25 W output, that works out to approximately 219 kWh a year – around $66 a year at a flat 30c/kWh – though most tanks run the pump well below full intensity most of the time, so actual running cost is typically lower. Red Sea describes the pump as near-silent but does not publish a decibel rating.
Safety
Runs from the included external DC power supply – keep the power pack itself out of the aquarium and any splash zone. As with any mains-powered aquarium equipment, run it through an RCD-protected circuit.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the wet-side impeller assembly periodically and check it turns freely – salt creep and detritus are the usual cause of a noisy or reduced-flow pump. Red Sea sells a dedicated service pack of wear parts for periodic maintenance.
Goes well with
Pairs with the Red Sea ReefWave 25 Service Pack for scheduled maintenance, and with a second ReefWave 25 for synced multi-pump flow on wider tanks.
Warranty and delivery
24-month manufacturer warranty from date of purchase, non-transferable beyond the original purchaser, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel freight.
Common questions
Can I run the ReefWave 25 on a tank smaller than 45 cm?
Yes, at the lower end of its 10–100% intensity range, but a nano tank will usually get more even flow from a smaller dedicated powerhead than from a ReefWave turned right down.
Do I need Red Sea's controller, or does the app run it alone?
The controller and DC power module are included and required to run the pump; the ReefBeat app connects to that controller over WiFi for scheduling and remote control.
Can I sync a ReefWave 25 with a ReefWave 45?
Red Sea's multi-pump sync groups pumps together via the app; check the current ReefBeat app documentation for mixed-model group behaviour before relying on it for a display.
What's the difference between forward and reverse flow?
Forward flow is roughly three times stronger than reverse on this pump, so alternating and randomised modes produce a genuine shift in current direction and strength, not just a paused pulse.
Does it come with everything I need to install it?
Yes – the powerhead, external wet-side magnet mount, controller and DC power supply are included; nothing else to buy to get it running.
