The Reefer MAX 170 G2+ pairs a 128 L display and 37 L sump with a ReefLED G2 115 light, a ReefWave 25 gyre pump, a ReefRun G2 4000 return pump and a Reefer DC Skimmer 300 — genuinely reef-ready in one purchase, at the smallest footprint in the MAX G2+ range.

Which size do I need?
All three MAX G2+ sizes share the same return pump and skimmer model — you're choosing display footprint and lighting/flow coverage, not filtration capacity.

The 170 is the only size in this range under 200 L total volume, and its 60 x 50 cm footprint is the most compact of the three. If floor space is the constraint, this is the size that fits where the 200 and 250 won't. If you want more display volume in roughly the same footprint, the 200 uses the same 60 cm length with more width and height.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: a first genuinely reef-capable system, or a smaller space where a 200+ L footprint isn't practical.
- Not suitable for: reef keepers planning heavy coral stocking from the outset — the 200 or 250 give more working volume for the same equipment tier.
Care and maintenance
The ReefMat roller advances automatically but the used fleece still needs replacing on a schedule; the ReefATO+ reservoir needs periodic refilling and its sensor needs occasional cleaning. Check the skimmer cup regularly during the first few weeks while bioload stabilises.
Warranty and delivery
24 months standard warranty from Red Sea, with the glass aquarium eligible for a further 12 months if you register the product. This is in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. At 180 kg filled, this is a two-person lift for setup — plan accordingly.

Common questions
Does the 170 include a heater?
No — none of the MAX G2+ sizes include a heater, chiller or RO/DI unit.
Is the return pump smaller on the 170 than the 250?
No. All three sizes in this range ship with the same ReefRun G2 4000 pump and the same Reefer DC Skimmer 300 — only the lighting and circulation hardware scale up on the 250.
How heavy is this system filled, for lifting and floor planning?
Around 180 kg filled, at a 60 x 50 cm footprint.
Is this the current Red Sea generation?
This is the G2+ generation. Red Sea's current marketing focus has moved to the newer G3 platform, but G2+ remains a fully supported, current product line.
