Red Sea Reefer Max 425 G3
Arrives with its lighting, flow, filtration and skimming already fitted.
The Red Sea REEFER MAX 425 G3 pairs the 433-litre REEFER 425 G3 aquarium and cabinet with two ReefLED G2 115 light units, twin ReefWave gyre circulation pumps, a ReefRun G2 DC return pump, a REEFER DC 600 protein skimmer, a ReefMat 500 mechanical filter roller and the ReefATO+ auto top-off system, pre-plumbed into a 91-litre in-cabinet sump. It suits a reefer setting up a new display who wants the core equipment sorted on day one, on the same ReefBeat app used across the rest of the REEFER range.
Key features
- Third-generation REEFER cabinet and sump — euro-braced glass tank, low-profile internal overflow and a pre-glued sump, so the plumbing that usually eats a weekend is already done.
- Two ReefLED G2 115 units included — tunable 10,000K–23,000K spectrum with a dedicated moonlight channel, controlled from the ReefBeat app rather than a separate controller.
- ReefRun G2 DC return pump — a DC pump rather than the fixed-speed pumps this tank shipped with in earlier generations, so flow is adjustable from the app instead of a physical dial on the pump body.
- REEFER DC 600 protein skimmer built into the sump — no separate skimmer purchase, no drilling a sump you already own.
- ReefMat 500 filter roller — mechanical filtration on a roll of filter media, replacing daily filter-sock rinsing with an occasional roll change.
- ReefATO+ auto top-off with leak detection — tracks evaporation and tops up automatically, and the same unit watches for a sump leak.
- Twin ReefWave gyre circulation pumps — wide, gentle gyre-style flow across the display rather than two competing point-source jets.

We could not independently confirm a single flow-rate figure for the ReefRun G2 return pump on this model — the manufacturer's own manual and other published listings disagree, so we've left the number off this page rather than publish one we can't stand behind. Ask in store if you need a specific lift figure for your plumbing run.
Which REEFER MAX do I need?
The REEFER MAX range shares the same lighting, pump, skimmer and ATO philosophy across sizes — the difference is display volume and how much gear runs in parallel to cover it.
| Model | Display volume | Total system volume | Lighting included |
|---|---|---|---|
| REEFER MAX 425 G3 | 343 L | 433 L | 2x ReefLED G2 115 |
| REEFER MAX 525 G3+ | 423 L | 540 L | 3x ReefLED G2 115 |
Going from the 425 to the 525 buys roughly 80 L more display volume and a third light unit to cover the extra length, on the same cabinet depth and height. If you're torn between the two, the deciding factor is usually room length rather than stocking ambition.
Will it fit my space?
Footprint is 120 x 60 cm. Allow clearance behind the cabinet for the ReefBeat control panel and cabling, and above the tank for the ReefLED mounting arms to sit clear of the water surface — roughly 20–25 cm above the rim is typical for this arm style, though we'd confirm against the arms in the box before fixing a shelf or hood above it.
How much does it weigh filled, and will my floor take it?
Red Sea states the filled system at 690 kg. Spread evenly over the 120 x 60 cm (0.72 m²) cabinet footprint, that works out to roughly 960 kg/m² — but real-world loading isn't even, and concentrates at the cabinet's feet or base rails rather than across the whole footprint. For a tank over 200 L on a suspended timber floor (as opposed to a slab), we'd suggest checking span and load rating with a builder before installation, particularly in an older Queenslander. This figure is our own calculation from the manufacturer's filled weight, not a Red Sea floor-loading rating — Red Sea does not publish one for this model.
Running costs and noise
The return pump, two lights, two ReefWave pumps and the skimmer's air draw are all DC units, which keeps running noise low relative to older AC-driven REEFER generations — Red Sea doesn't publish a dB figure for the assembled system, so we haven't invented one. We don't yet have a verified annual kWh figure for the combined system and won't publish an estimate we can't source; ask in store and we'll work through it with you against your local tariff.
Suitable for / not suitable for
- Suitable for: mixed reef and FOWLR marine setups, softies-to-SPS lighting range via the ReefLED spectrum control, a first "everything in one box" reef build or an upgrade from a smaller REEFER.
- Not suitable for: freshwater use as supplied — the included skimmer and DC return pump are marine-specific; species needing still water, since the gyre pumps and return flow together move a substantial volume; anyone expecting a heater or doser in the box.
Care and maintenance
The ReefMat filter roller needs a fresh roll of media on a schedule rather than a daily rinse — check the roll level through the sump viewing panel and keep spares on hand rather than waiting until it runs out. The skimmer cup should be emptied and rinsed regularly during bioload changes or new-tank cycling, when skimmate production is heaviest.
Safety
This is a mains-powered marine system — the return pump, lights, ReefWave pumps, skimmer and ATO all run from GPO power. Use a dedicated RCD-protected circuit for the fish room or cabinet power board, keep power leads looped ("drip-looped") below socket height, and fit a divider or shelf between electrical connections and any water top-up point. A heater is not included; if you fit one, match it to a thermostat suited to the water volume and never run a heater without one.
Warranty and delivery
Red Sea backs this system with the manufacturer's standard warranty, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law — ask in store for the current term, as we don't want to quote a figure here that a policy update could make wrong. This is an oversize item shipped on a pallet; delivery is kerbside/dock unless local delivery or assembly is arranged with us, and two people are recommended for lifting the tank onto the cabinet.
Common questions
What's the difference between the REEFER 425 G3 and the REEFER MAX 425 G3?
The plain REEFER 425 G3 is the aquarium, cabinet and sump only — you supply your own lighting, return pump and skimmer. The MAX package on this page adds all three, plus the ReefMat filter roller and ReefATO+, already fitted.
Does the REEFER MAX 425 G3 include a heater?
No. A heater and matching thermostat are not part of the MAX package and need to be bought separately, sized to the 433 L total system volume.
Can I run this on a standard Australian power circuit?
Yes — all included equipment is supplied for the Australian market at 240 V / 50 Hz with an Australian plug. We'd still recommend spreading the return pump, lights and skimmer across more than one GPO if your fish-room circuit is shared with other equipment.
Is the return pump flow rate fixed?
No — it's a DC pump, adjustable through the ReefBeat app rather than a physical dial, which is the main upgrade over the AC pumps in earlier REEFER generations.
What's not included that I should budget for?
A heater and thermostat, a doser if you plan to dose calcium and alkalinity by hand rather than manually, and your live rock, sand and livestock. See the full "not included" list above.
