Red Sea Reefer-S Max 1000 G3+
The largest Reefer-S ships with lighting, flow and skimming already fitted. The Red Sea Reefer-S MAX 1000 G3+ is the flagship of Red Sea's wide-format Reefer-S range: a 210 x 68 x 65 cm rimless display over a 205 L sump, with four ReefLED G2 170 lighting units, twin ReefWave 45 gyre pumps, a ReefRun G2 12000 DC return pump, a Red Sea DC Skimmer 900 and a ReefMat 1200 automatic filter roller all fitted and plumbed before it leaves the factory. It's built for an established reefer setting up a large mixed or SPS-dominant reef who wants the major hardware matched and installed rather than sourced piece by piece.
Key features
- 1,000 L total system volume — 795 L display over a 205 L sump, so bioload and dosing capacity scale with a display this size rather than being squeezed by an undersized sump.
- Quad ReefLED G2 170 lighting — full-width coral-growth spectrum with mounting arms, run and dimmed from the Red Sea ReefBeat app.
- Twin ReefWave 45 gyre pumps — wide, low-turbulence circulation for coral placement across a 210 cm display, controlled independently of the return.
- ReefRun G2 12000 DC return pump — variable speed, rated 5,000–12,000 L/h with up to 5.9 m of head, app-controlled through the slide-out control panel.
- DC Skimmer 900 and ReefMat 1200 — protein export and mechanical filtration handled from day one, with the roller cutting weekly filter-sock changes to occasional roll changes.
- 19 mm ultra-clear rimless glass — front, side and bottom, on a display built for an unobstructed view.
What's included
- REEFER-S 1000 G3+ display aquarium and matching cabinet

- ReefRun G2 12000 DC return pump
- Red Sea DC Skimmer 900
- ReefMat 1200 automatic filter roller
Red Sea's general MAX-S range overview also lists a ReefATO+ auto top-off unit as part of the MAX bundle, and one source we checked for this exact model lists an ATO pump — but we couldn't get a fully consistent confirmation for this specific 1000 G3+ SKU across sources. Ask us to confirm ATO inclusion before you buy if that matters to your setup; we'd rather check than guess on your order.
Not included
- Heater and any temperature controller — sized separately to your room's ambient temperature
- Chiller, for climates or rooms where ambient heat pushes the tank above a safe reef temperature
- Dosing pump system, for two-part or trace element dosing beyond what water changes provide
- RO/DI unit and saltwater mix — the tank ships dry
- Live rock, sand or aquascape, and livestock
This is a MAX package, not a bare Reefer-S: the lighting, return pump, gyre flow and skimmer are already fitted. A standard (non-MAX) Reefer-S 1000 G3+ ships as the aquarium, cabinet and plumbed sump only — the two are different purchases at different price points, and it's worth checking which listing you're looking at before comparing prices elsewhere.

Will it fit my room?
Allow the full 153 cm system height plus ceiling clearance for lid removal and light servicing, and at least 10 cm behind the cabinet for return plumbing and cabling. At 1,000 L, water alone weighs roughly a tonne before the glass, cabinet, rock and substrate are added — Red Sea does not publish a total filled weight for this model, so get the floor checked by a builder or engineer before it goes in anywhere other than a slab or a reinforced ground floor. This is exactly the kind of large-system weight that goes unstated and shouldn't be guessed at.
Performance
The ReefRun G2 12000 DC return pump is rated across a 5,000–12,000 L/h range with up to 5.9 m of head — the top of that range is a best-case, low-head figure, and actual delivered flow drops as it works against the lift and plumbing resistance of a 1,000 L system; Red Sea has not published the full flow-against-head curve for us to quote a delivered figure at your specific plumbing run. The ReefLED G2 170 units are measured by Red Sea at roughly 550 PAR at the light's surface, falling to around 130 PAR at 80 cm depth in Red Sea's own test tank — actual PAR at your rock and sand will vary with mounting height and tank geometry, so treat this as a guide rather than a guarantee for your setup.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to established reefers running SPS-dominant or mixed reef displays who want lighting, flow, skimming and mechanical filtration matched and pre-plumbed rather than assembled component by component. Not the right starting point for a first marine tank — there's no dosing, heating or RO/DI provision, and a 1,000 L system carries a proportionally larger cycling, dosing and top-up workload than a nano or standard-size reef.
Care and maintenance
The ReefMat roller reduces mechanical filtration to periodic roll changes rather than weekly sock washing; skimmer cup emptying and gyre pump impeller cleaning remain routine tasks. Budget for ReefMat roll refills and skimmer neck cleaning as the main consumables.
Safety
All included electrical equipment is mains-powered — run it through an RCD-protected circuit, and keep drip loops on every cable entering the cabinet.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's manufacturer warranty, which applies in addition to your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. This is an oversized, heavy item shipped assembled or part-assembled on a pallet — expect a two-person kerbside or room-of-choice delivery depending on access, and confirm stair or doorway clearance before ordering.
Common questions
What's the difference between the standard Reefer-S 1000 G3+ and the MAX?
The standard Reefer-S 1000 G3+ is the aquarium, cabinet and plumbed sump only. The MAX adds the lighting, return pump, gyre circulation, skimmer and filter roller already fitted — it's a running system rather than a tank you still need to equip.
Does this include an auto top-off unit?
We're confirming this for the exact 1000 G3+ MAX bundle before we state it either way — ask us and we'll check before you order.
Do I still need a heater?
Yes. Heating isn't included in any Reefer-S package tier — size a heater or heater pair to 1,000 L and your room's typical low ambient temperature.
Is the floor under this tank a concern?
At 1,000 L total volume, yes — it's worth checking with a builder or engineer, particularly on an upper floor or bearer-and-joist construction. Red Sea doesn't publish a filled weight for this model; the water alone is around a tonne before cabinet, glass, rock and sand are added.
Is "G3+" the same as Red Sea's current "G3" generation?
Red Sea's own current site labels this generation "G3" rather than "G3+" — if you're comparing against Red Sea's own marketing material, look for the G3 REEFER-S MAX range under that name.
