Red Sea Reefer-S Max 850 G3+

One box holds the entire reef — lighting, flow, filtration and top-off, all fitted and plumbed. The Red Sea REEFER-S Max 850 G3+ is the fully-equipped configuration of Red Sea's REEFER-S 850 G3+ system: a 180 x 68 x 65 cm rimless display over a matching cabinet and sump, with ReefLED lighting, a ReefRun return pump, a REEFER DC skimmer, twin ReefWave gyre pumps and an automatic filter roller already fitted. It suits a reefer setting up a large SPS or mixed display without sourcing and matching lighting, flow and filtration equipment separately.

Key features
  • 850 L total system volume — 680 L display over a 170 L sump, so dosing and bioload capacity scale with the display rather than being squeezed by an undersized sump.
  • Triple ReefLED G2 170 lighting — full-tank coral-growth spectrum with mounting arms included, run and dimmed from the Red Sea ReefBeat app rather than a separate driver.
  • Twin ReefWave 45 gyre pumps — wide, low-turbulence flow across a 180 cm display, controlled independently of the return pump.
  • ReefRun G2 12000 DC return pump — variable-speed, app-controlled, feeding the plumbed overflow through a silencing ReefGate valve.
  • REEFER DC Skimmer 900 and ReefMat 1200 — mechanical and protein export handled from day one, with the filter roller cutting weekly filter-sock changes to occasional roll changes.
  • ReefATO+ auto top-off — holds salinity steady between water changes, with built-in temperature monitoring and leak detection.
  • Pre-glued sump plumbing — assembly-ready piping, no solvent welding on setup day.
What's included
  • REEFER-S 850 G3+ display aquarium and matching cabinet
  • Sump with pre-glued plumbing and slide-out control panel
  • 3 x ReefLED G2 170 lighting with mounting arms
  • 2 x ReefWave 45 gyre circulation pumps
  • ReefRun G2 12000 DC return pump and controller
  • REEFER DC Skimmer 900
  • ReefMat 1200 automatic filter roller
  • ReefATO+ auto top-off unit
  • Utility basket
Not included
  • Heater and any temperature controller — sized separately to your room's ambient temperature
  • Chiller, for climates or rooms where ambient heat pushes the tank above a safe reef temperature
  • Dosing pump system, for two-part or trace element dosing beyond what water changes provide
  • RO/DI unit and saltwater mix — the tank ships dry
  • Live rock, sand or aquascape, and livestock
  • Test kits and a phone or Wi-Fi network for the ReefBeat app

This is the Max package, not the base REEFER-S 850 G3+: the lighting, return pump, gyre flow, skimmer and filter roller are already fitted. The base REEFER-S 850 G3+ ships as the aquarium, cabinet, sump and ReefATO+ only, with none of the above equipment — the two are different purchases at very different price points, and it's worth checking which listing you're looking at before comparing prices elsewhere.

Will it fit my room?

Allow the full 153 cm system height plus ceiling clearance for lid removal and light servicing, and at least 10 cm behind the cabinet for return plumbing, the ATO reservoir line and cabling. At 850 L total volume this is a floor-loading item: water alone weighs roughly 850 kg before the glass, cabinet, rock and substrate are added, so the true filled weight is meaningfully higher again. Red Sea does not publish a filled weight figure for this model, so if it's going anywhere other than a slab or a reinforced ground floor, get the floor checked by a builder or engineer before it goes in.

Performance

The ReefWave 45 pumps are rated at up to 3,960 GPH (roughly 15,000 L/h) combined at the pump face, in gyre mode across the display width — actual in-tank flow depends on rock placement and pump aim, as with any powerhead. Red Sea has not published a head-loss curve for the ReefRun G2 12000 return pump used in this package, so the flow figure printed on Red Sea's own marketing is a best-case, zero-head number; expect noticeably less once it's pushing water up through the drain plumbing and skimmer. Ask us for the manufacturer's curve sheet if you want to plan dosing or turnover around the delivered figure rather than the headline one.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suited to reefers running SPS-dominant or mixed reef displays on a wide, shallow 180 cm footprint, who want lighting, flow, skimming and mechanical filtration matched and pre-plumbed rather than assembled component by component. Not the right starting point for a first marine tank — there's no dosing, heating or RO/DI provision, and an 850 L system carries a proportionally larger cycling, dosing and top-up workload than a nano or standard-size reef.

Care and maintenance

The ReefMat roller reduces mechanical filtration to periodic roll changes rather than weekly sock washing; skimmer cup emptying and gyre pump impeller cleaning remain routine tasks. Budget for ReefMat roll refills and skimmer neck cleaning as the main consumables.

Safety

All included electrical equipment is mains-powered — run it through an RCD-protected circuit, and keep drip loops on every cable entering the cabinet. The sump's drain plumbing includes a ReefGate valve for silent operation; check it after any plumbing disturbance, as an incorrectly set valve can cause overflow noise or, in a worst case, a sump overflow.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Red Sea's manufacturer warranty, which applies in addition to your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. This is an oversized, heavy item shipped assembled or part-assembled on a pallet — expect a two-person kerbside or room-of-choice delivery depending on access, and confirm stair or doorway clearance before ordering.

Common questions

What's the difference between the base REEFER-S 850 G3+ and the Max?

The base REEFER-S 850 G3+ is the aquarium, cabinet, sump and ReefATO+ only. The Max adds the lighting, return pump, gyre circulation, skimmer and filter roller already fitted — it's a complete running system rather than a tank you still need to equip.

Do I still need a heater?

Yes. Heating isn't included in any REEFER-S 850 G3+ package tier — size a heater or heater pair to 850 L and your room's typical low ambient temperature.

Can the lighting and pumps run without Wi-Fi?

They'll run on their last set programme without a network connection, but scheduling, ramping and remote monitoring through ReefBeat need a Wi-Fi connection.

Is the floor under this tank a concern?

At 850 L total volume, yes — it's worth checking with a builder or engineer, particularly on an upper floor or bearer-and-joist construction. Red Sea doesn't publish a filled weight for this model; the water alone is around 850 kg before cabinet, glass, rock and sand are added.

Does this include a dosing system?

No. A dosing pump system for two-part or trace elements is sold separately and isn't part of any REEFER-S 850 G3+ package tier.
