Red Sea Reefer Y Split Outlet
Splits one return outlet into two, for wider tank flow. The Red Sea Reefer Y-Split Outlet (Red Sea part R42176) is a genuine Y-shaped fitting that divides a single Reefer return line into two separate flows, cutting the "jet effect" and sand-blowing that a lone return nozzle can cause. It's a common upgrade across the wider Reefer range, from Nano through to the largest XXL and Peninsula systems.
Key features
- Splits return flow in two – reduces the single hard jet from one return nozzle, spreading flow more evenly across the display.
- Genuine Red Sea part – R42176, sized to suit factory Reefer return plumbing.
- Reduces sand-blowing – a common complaint with a single high-flow return nozzle over shallow substrate.
- Simple retrofit – fits inline on the existing return line without replumbing the sump.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to any Reefer owner running a single return outlet who wants to spread flow across a wider display, or reduce a hard jet disturbing the sand bed near the nozzle. Not a replacement for a wavemaker or gyre pump – it changes how one return outlet distributes flow, not the tank's overall circulation.
Goes well with
- Red Sea Reefer return nozzles – pairs with the split to aim each of the two outputs independently.
- ReefWave gyre pumps – for broader in-tank circulation beyond what the return alone provides.

Common questions
What does a Y-split outlet actually fix?
It divides the flow from a single return nozzle into two, which softens a strong single jet and spreads flow further across the display – useful where one return outlet is blowing sand or leaving one side of the tank with too little movement.
Will this fit my Reefer?
It's listed as compatible across most current and recent Reefer generations, but confirm your exact model and generation with us before ordering, since Red Sea's own fit diagram wasn't available to check against at time of writing.
Do I need a wavemaker as well?
Yes, if you want dedicated in-tank circulation. This part changes how the return outlet distributes its flow – it doesn't add flow the way a gyre pump or wavemaker does.
Does it come with new return nozzles?
No – it's the Y-fitting only. Existing or replacement return nozzles fit onto each of its two outlets.
