Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for seawater reef systems with a sump that can take the unit. Red Sea states the ReefMat is suitable for seawater aquariums only; its level sensors read the conductivity of salt water, so it will not work in a freshwater tank. It is mechanical filtration (trapping particles), not a replacement for biological filtration, the bacteria that break down fish waste. Replacement fleece is our Red Sea ReefMat Fleece Mat 500.

Safety

Run the power supply from an RCD (safety switch) protected outlet and keep a drip loop (a downward loop in the cable so water drips off before reaching the socket) in the cable.
