Reef Roids 75g Coral Food

A concentrated marine plankton food for filter-feeding corals that struggle to get enough to eat from light alone. Reef-Roids is a fine, whole-plankton powder from PolypLab, sized for target-feeding Goniopora, zoanthids, mushrooms and other filter feeders that rely on captured food rather than photosynthesis. This 75 g pouch is PolypLab's standard size, sitting between the 37 g Nano pack and the 150 g PRO pack in the range.

Key features
  • Whole marine plankton – a blend of naturally occurring marine planktons, including a zooplankton species PolypLab describes as unique to Reef-Roids.
  • Fine, waterborne particle size – mixes into a slurry that filter-feeding corals can capture, rather than settling straight to the substrate.
  • Two feeding methods – broadcast across the whole tank or target-fed to individual colonies with a syringe.
  • 75 g pouch – PolypLab's mid-size pack, between the 37 g Nano and 150 g PRO.
  • Refrigerated storage extends shelf life – PolypLab states a 12-month shelf life when kept sealed and cool.

Feeding directions

PolypLab publishes two feeding methods, both scaled to total tank volume rather than to individual corals.

Broadcast feeding

Mix roughly one teaspoon of Reef-Roids into a slurry with tank water for every 100 US gallons (about 379 L) of total volume, then disperse it across the tank with the pumps still running. For smaller systems, PolypLab scales this down to around a quarter teaspoon per 25 US gallons (about 95 L).

Target feeding

For feeding specific colonies, PolypLab's guide works out to roughly one teaspoon per 25 US gallons (about 95 L) of total system volume. Mix the powder with about 10 mL of tank water into a slurry, turn off circulation, and apply it directly to the coral with a syringe or turkey baster.

PolypLab recommends feeding twice a week, starting at once a week and increasing if nutrient export keeps pace. Gently blow off any food left on the coral after 10–15 minutes rather than leaving it to break down on the tissue.

Cost per feed

PolypLab doesn't publish how many teaspoons a 75 g pouch contains, so there's no manufacturer figure to divide the pack price by – we won't invent one. As a straightforward yardstick, the pack price works out to a per-gram cost, which is the fairest like-for-like comparison against the 37 g Nano and 150 g PRO packs until PolypLab publishes a teaspoon yield.

Which one do I need?
Pack Best for
Nano 37 g Nano and pico reef tanks working through a small pack before it's used up
Standard 75 g (this product) Most display reef tanks feeding weekly to twice-weekly
PRO 150 g Larger systems or frequent feeders wanting fewer repeat purchases

PolypLab publishes the same ingredient declaration and guaranteed analysis across all three pack sizes – the difference is pack size, not formulation.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for: marine and reef aquariums, and filter-feeding corals such as Goniopora, zoanthids and mushroom corals.

Not suitable for: freshwater aquariums. PolypLab does not publish feeding rates for photosynthetic corals that get most of their energy from light rather than captured food – check the coral's specific care requirements first.

Care and maintenance

Keep the pouch sealed and refrigerated to protect the stated 12-month shelf life. Broadcast feeding adds an organic load to the tank, so keep an eye on nutrient levels if feeding more than twice a week and increase export (skimming, water changes) if needed.

Goes well with
  • A feeding syringe or turkey baster – for target-feeding individual colonies with circulation off.
  • A protein skimmer or extra filtration – to manage the added organic load from regular broadcast feeding.
Warranty and delivery

As a consumable food product, Reef-Roids isn't covered by a manufacturer warranty; your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply regardless. Store in the refrigerator once received.

Common questions

How often should I feed Reef-Roids?

PolypLab recommends twice a week. If you're new to broadcast feeding, start at once a week and watch your nutrient levels before increasing.

Can I use Reef-Roids in a freshwater tank?

No – Reef-Roids is formulated for marine and reef aquariums and filter-feeding corals.

Does Reef-Roids cloud the water?

PolypLab doesn't publish a water-clarity claim for Reef-Roids, so we can't state one either way – dose it gradually the first time to see how your system responds.

What's the difference between the 75 g pack and the 150 g PRO pack?

PolypLab lists the same ingredients and guaranteed analysis for both – the PRO pack is simply the larger, better-value size for tanks feeding often.

Do I need to turn off my pumps to feed it?

Not for broadcast feeding, but PolypLab recommends turning circulation off for target feeding so the slurry stays on the coral rather than drifting away.
