Seachem Fish Net
One net range, right size for anything from shrimp fry to full-grown cichlids.
The Seachem Fish Net range covers six hoop sizes from 8.5 cm (3") to 30 cm (12"), each available in standard or fine mesh, so there's a size and mesh combination for fry, shrimp, community fish and large cichlids alike. This listing covers the full range – pick the size and mesh that matches what's going in it.
Key features
- Six hoop sizes – 8.5, 12.5, 15, 20, 25 and 30 cm (3", 5", 6", 8", 10" and 12"), so small breeding tanks and full-size display tanks both have a proper fit.
- Standard and fine mesh – standard mesh for general fishkeeping, fine mesh for fry, shrimp and delicate long-finned species that can snag on a wider weave.
- Standard and long handles – a 30 cm (12") handle as standard, with a 40 cm (16") long-handle option on the 12.5 cm (5") and 20 cm (8") nets for deeper tanks.
- Soft mesh – gentler on fins and slime coats than a stiff, coarse net.
- Freshwater and saltwater safe – the same net works across both setups.

Which one do I need?
| Hoop size | Best for |
|---|---|
| 8.5 cm (3") | Shrimp, fry and nano fish in small tanks |
| 12.5 cm (5") | Small community fish; long-handle version for deeper tanks |
| 15 cm (6") | General community tank use |
| 20 cm (8") | Larger community fish; long-handle version for deeper tanks |
| 25 cm (10") | Goldfish, cichlids and other larger fish |
| 30 cm (12") | Big fish and wide-bodied species needing one calm scoop instead of a chase |
Choose fine mesh over standard whenever fry, shrimp or long-finned species (bettas, fancy guppies) are involved – the tighter weave stops fins and legs catching.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: catching and moving fish and shrimp during water changes, treatment, sales or tank moves, in freshwater or saltwater.
- Not suitable for: corals or fragile invertebrates that can be damaged by netting – use a container or cup instead.
Care and maintenance
Rinse in fresh water after use, especially after saltwater use, and let the mesh air dry between tanks to reduce the chance of carrying disease or parasites between systems. Keep a net aside for quarantine or hospital tank use only if disease is present.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Seachem's standard manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard freight.
Common questions
What's the difference between standard and fine mesh?
Fine mesh has a tighter weave that won't catch fins, whiskers or shrimp legs – better for fry, shrimp and long-finned fish. Standard mesh is fine for most community and larger fish.
Do I need the long handle version?
Only if the tank is deep enough that a 30 cm handle doesn't comfortably reach the bottom – the long-handle option adds 10 cm and is available on the 5" and 8" nets.
Can I use the same net in a saltwater and a freshwater tank?
The net itself is rated for both, but rinse it thoroughly between tanks to avoid transferring parasites or disease between systems.
What size net do I need for a goldfish?
The 25 cm (10") or 30 cm (12") nets give goldfish and similarly large fish room to be scooped in one movement rather than chased around a smaller hoop.
