Seachem Gold Trace
Goldfish draw trace elements from their water, not just their food. Seachem Gold Trace is a trace-element supplement formulated for goldfish, replacing elements that are steadily used up, oxidised or precipitated out of aquarium water over time. Unlike land animals, fish take up nutrients from the water around them as well as their diet, so a tank that is never topped up with trace elements gradually runs short — Gold Trace is the fix.
Key features
- Replaces trace elements lost to uptake, oxidation and precipitation between water changes.
- Limited to elements demonstrated necessary for fish, based on National Academy of Sciences research.
- Supports colour, slime coat and general condition.
- Simple twice-weekly dosing, scaled to your tank size.
- Under 1c per litre of tank water at the standard dose — see the dosing table below.

Common questions
Do I need this if I already feed a good diet?
Yes, if you want to fully replace what is used. Fish draw trace elements from the water as well as food, and water levels deplete regardless of diet.
How long does a bottle last?
At the standard twice-weekly dose, 250 mL treats roughly 4,000 L cumulatively and 500 mL roughly 8,000 L — for an 80 L tank on standard dosing, that is several years.
Which elements does it contain?
Seachem states the formula is limited to elements demonstrated necessary for fish, per National Academy of Sciences research from 1993, but does not publish the individual element list or concentrations for this product.
Can I dose it alongside Gold Basics, Gold Buffer and Gold Salt?
Yes. Seachem markets the four as a goldfish care range designed to be used together.
