Seachem PhosBond (Bag)

The same phosphate and silicate remover as loose PhosBond, pre-packed in its own media bag so you can drop it straight into the filter. Seachem PhosBond (Bag) combines ferric oxide coated aluminium oxide to pull both phosphate and silicate out of fresh and saltwater in one pass, supplied ready to use without needing a separate mesh bag or reactor.

Key features
  • Removes phosphate and silicate together – the same dual-action media as loose PhosBond.
  • Pre-bagged – no need to buy or fill a separate media bag before use.
  • Fresh and saltwater safe – one product for either system.
  • Reusable – can be dried and returned to service until exhausted, and doesn't leach phosphate or silicate back out.
  • Two sizes – 250 g and 500 g, sold by weight rather than volume.

Which size do I need?

Seachem publishes PhosBond's dose rate by volume (60 mL per 200 L saltwater, or 60 mL per 400 L freshwater) rather than by weight, and we haven't been able to confirm an exact gram-to-millilitre conversion directly from Seachem for this pre-bagged pack. As a guide, the 500 g bag is roughly double the media of the 250 g bag – for a precise dose on a specific tank size, our loose Seachem PhosBond sizes (measured in mL) let you dose against Seachem's published volume-based rate directly, or ask our team and we'll help you match the bagged pack to your system.

Setup and use

Place the bag directly into a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or the high-flow section of a trickle filter – no need to decant it into your own media bag first. Test phosphate after 4 days in place; if it hasn't dropped to around 0.02 mg/L, leave it running and test again in a few more days. Once levels are low and stable, the media can stay in place until they start climbing again.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: reef tanks and FOWLR systems fighting nuisance algae, freshwater tanks with excess phosphate, anyone who'd rather drop a ready-made bag straight in than fill their own.
  • Not suitable for: precise dosing where you need to match Seachem's published mL-based rate exactly – for that, the loose PhosBond sizes give you a direct volume to work from.
Care and maintenance

The media can be removed, rinsed and dried between uses and returned to service until it's fully exhausted – it doesn't release what it's captured back into the water. Replace it once it stops bringing phosphate back down after a few days in place.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Seachem's standard quality guarantee at the time of sale, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a standard parcel.

Common questions

What's the difference between this and the loose PhosBond?

Same media, same job – this pack is already inside a media bag and sold by weight (250 g or 500 g) rather than volume, so there's nothing extra to buy or fill before using it.

How do I know how much to use for my tank size?

Seachem's published dose rate is by volume, not weight, so for a precise match to a specific tank size the loose mL-sized PhosBond is easier to dose exactly. For this bagged pack, treat 500 g as roughly double the 250 g bag and check with us if you want help sizing it to your system.

Can I use it in a freshwater tank?

Yes – PhosBond works in both freshwater and saltwater; the underlying dose rate is simply lower for freshwater than saltwater.

Do I need my own media bag as well?

No – this pack already comes bagged and ready to place into your filter.
