Seachem Reef Fusion 1 500ml

Keeps reef aquarium calcium stable without daily guesswork. Seachem Reef Fusion 1 is the calcium and trace element half of Seachem's two-part Reef Fusion dosing system, designed to replace the calcium, strontium and other trace elements that corals, clams and coralline algae pull out of the water column as they grow. It is dosed alongside Reef Fusion 2 (the alkalinity and carbonate half) to hold both calcium and alkalinity in the range reef organisms need.

Key features
  • Concentrated liquid calcium and trace element supplement for reef aquariums, part 1 of a matched two-part system
  • Each dose contributes calcium plus biologically appropriate levels of magnesium, strontium, boron, iron, manganese and molybdenum
  • Formulated at a higher pH than typical calcium chloride supplements, which helps drive off ammonia from the mix
  • Costs under 1c per litre of tank water at the standard dosing rate, worked out from the confirmed dose below
  • Pairs 1:1 with Reef Fusion 2 for balanced calcium and alkalinity maintenance

Suitable for / not suitable for

Suitable for established reef and mixed reef aquariums housing corals, clams and other calcifying invertebrates where calcium and alkalinity are being tested and tracked. Not suitable for use without testing calcium and alkalinity first, since dosing blind can push levels outside the safe range. Not intended to be dosed on its own long-term - it is designed to be paired with Reef Fusion 2 so calcium and alkalinity rise together rather than drifting apart.

Dosage and directions

Shake well before use. Dose 1 mL of Reef Fusion 1 per 25 L (6.5 US gallons) of aquarium water every 1-2 days, added to a high-flow area of the tank. Wait several minutes, then dose Reef Fusion 2 separately at the same rate into a different part of the tank. Do not exceed 4 mL per 25 L of either product in a single day. Each standard dose contributes roughly 4 mg/L of calcium; use test kit results to adjust frequency and volume so calcium stays around 410-430 mg/L and alkalinity stays around 4-6 meq/L.

Cost per litre

At the confirmed dosing rate of 1 mL per 25 L, a 500 mL bottle delivers 500 doses, each treating 25 L of system water - around 12,500 litres of dosed water across the life of the bottle. At $29.95 per 500 mL, that works out to under 1c per litre of tank water dosed.

Care and safety notes

Never mix Reef Fusion 1 and Reef Fusion 2 concentrates together before adding them to the tank - dose them separately, a few minutes apart, into different areas of the aquarium to avoid the two reacting and precipitating in the bottle or in the water. Test calcium and alkalinity regularly and adjust the dose gradually rather than jumping straight to the maximum rate.

Goes well with

Reef Fusion 1 is designed to be dosed 1:1 with Reef Fusion 2, its alkalinity and carbonate counterpart, so the two elements are replenished together rather than drifting out of balance.

Common questions

Can I use Reef Fusion 1 without Reef Fusion 2?

Reef Fusion 1 raises calcium and trace elements on its own, but Seachem designs it to be dosed alongside Reef Fusion 2 so alkalinity keeps pace with calcium. Using Reef Fusion 1 alone for an extended period can let alkalinity fall behind calcium demand.

How often should I test before adjusting the dose?

Test calcium and alkalinity at least weekly when starting a dosing routine, and more often in a heavily stocked or fast-growing reef tank, then adjust the dose gradually based on those results rather than the maximum rate on the label.

Will it cloud the water?

Dosed correctly and separately from Reef Fusion 2 into a high-flow area, Reef Fusion 1 should not cloud the water. Cloudiness generally happens if the two parts are mixed directly together or if the dose is increased too quickly.

Is it reef-safe for clams and inverts?

Yes, it is formulated for reef aquariums containing corals, clams and other calcifying invertebrates, and is one of the main ways to supply the calcium those animals need to grow their shells and skeletons.

How long will a 500 mL bottle last?

That depends on tank size and dosing frequency. At the standard rate of 1 mL per 25 L every 1-2 days, a 500 mL bottle provides roughly 500 doses, so a smaller reef tank dosed every second day will get considerably more use out of one bottle than a large, heavily stocked system dosed daily.
