Zoo Med Deep Dome Clamp Lamp

A recessed ceramic dome built for your biggest heat and UVB bulbs. The Zoo Med Deep Dome Clamp Lamp (model LF-17) is a single-socket dome fixture with a ceramic lamp holder rated to 160 W, housed in a highly polished aluminium reflector that extends past the face of the bulb to concentrate heat and light down into the enclosure.

The recessed design is what sets it apart from a standard reflector dome — the bulb sits further back inside the housing, which lets you run higher-wattage basking and UVB bulbs without the lamp protruding past the rim, and improves the spread of light and warmth compared with a shallow dome of the same diameter.

Key features
  • 160 W ceramic socket — rated for basking bulbs, halogen bulbs, ceramic heat emitters and mercury-vapour UVB bulbs up to 160 W, well beyond what a plastic-socket dome can handle.
  • 21.5 cm (8.5″) polished aluminium dome — the extra-deep reflector concentrates and redirects heat and UV output rather than losing it sideways.
  • Built for ReptiSun and PowerSun bulbs — sized and rated to run Zoo Med's ReptiSun 5.0 and 10.0 UVB compact fluorescent lamps and PowerSun UV mercury-vapour bulbs, as well as standard basking and ceramic heat emitter bulbs.
  • Sturdy clamp mount — clamps to an enclosure rim, mesh top or lamp stand.

What's included, and what you'll still need

Included: the dome fixture, ceramic socket, cord and clamp. Not included: the bulb. Pair it with a Zoo Med basking bulb, ceramic heat emitter, or a ReptiSun/PowerSun UVB lamp sized to your species and enclosure.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for terrariums and vivariums where a heat or UVB bulb needs to run above 100 W, or where you specifically want a UVB compact fluorescent or mercury-vapour bulb, both of which need a ceramic socket. Not suitable for use with a bulb rated over 160 W, and not intended as a submersible or outdoor fixture.

Safety

Use a ceramic-socket fixture only with bulbs rated for ceramic sockets — never exceed the 160 W rating. Keep the dome clear of glass, mesh and anything flammable, and check the clamp is seated firmly before leaving the lamp unattended. Mercury-vapour and UVB bulbs run hot; allow the dome to cool before repositioning or removing a bulb.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the aluminium reflector with a dry or barely damp cloth — a polished interior keeps the light and heat output at its rated level. Check the clamp screw periodically, especially on enclosures that get cleaned or moved often.

Warranty and delivery

Zoo Med covers the fixture with a 1-year manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard shipping applies.

Common questions

Can I run a 250 W bulb in this fixture?

No — the ceramic socket in this fixture is rated to 160 W maximum. For higher-wattage bulbs, Zoo Med's larger clamp lamp fixtures are rated further.

Does it come with a bulb?

No. The dome, socket, cord and clamp are included; the bulb is sold separately so you can choose the right heat or UVB output for your species.

Can I use a UVB compact fluorescent bulb in this fixture?

Yes — it's sized and rated for Zoo Med's ReptiSun 5.0 and 10.0 UVB compact fluorescent lamps as well as PowerSun UV mercury-vapour bulbs.

Where should I mount it?

Clamp it to the enclosure rim, a mesh top, or a separate lamp stand, positioned so the dome doesn't touch glass, mesh or décor. Exact mounting distance depends on the bulb you run — check that bulb's own heat or UV gradient chart.
