Zoo Med Hermit Crab Growth Shell Medium (2pk)
Two medium shells give a growing crab a choice of new homes. This pack holds two natural Zoo Med Medium growth shells with wide, round openings, sized for a crab that has already moved up from its first small shell and is ready for the next size.
Key features
- Two shells per pack – lets a crab compare and choose rather than being offered only one option.
- Wide opening – sized so a crab can retract fully inside for protection.
- Natural, unpainted shell – no coatings or dyes.
- Medium size band – the step up from Zoo Med's Small growth shells.

As with any natural shell, exact opening size varies piece to piece – Zoo Med doesn't publish a fixed diameter for the Medium band, so the two shells in a pack won't be identical twins.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for land hermit crabs (Coenobita species) moving up from a Small shell. Not suitable as the only spare in the enclosure long-term – once a crab grows into both, add a Large shell so there's always a next size available.
Care and maintenance
Rinse both shells in dechlorinated water before adding them to the enclosure. Remove any shell that's been fully vacated if it starts to smell or grow mould.
Goes well with
- Zoo Med Hermit Crab Growth Shell – Large and Extra Large sizes for the next moves up.
- Zoo Med Hermit Crab Sea Sponge – helps keep humidity up, which makes shell changes easier.
Warranty and delivery
Sold as a natural product with no manufacturer warranty; shells are unique in shape and colour, and the product photo is representative. Standard shipping applies.
Common questions
Why does this pack have two shells instead of one?
Offering a choice reduces shell fights and lets a crab pick the shell that actually fits, rather than being forced into the only option available.
My crab is still in a Small shell – is Medium too big?
Keep a Medium on hand as the next size up rather than waiting until the current shell is a tight fit, so the crab always has a slightly larger option available.
Do I need to prepare the shells before use?
Rinse in dechlorinated water before adding them to the enclosure.
