Zoo Med Laboratories Creatures Digital Thermometer

A stick-on gauge for habitats too small to fit a probe unit. The Zoo Med Creatures Digital Thermometer is an adhesive-backed thermometer built for the smaller enclosures in the Zoo Med Creatures range – scorpions, spiders, insects and other small terrarium pets – where a full probe-and-display digital thermometer is more hardware than the tank needs. Despite the "Digital" name, it's a liquid-crystal strip gauge with no electronic display or battery.

Key features
  • Reads both Fahrenheit and Celsius – one gauge, no need to convert.
  • Adhesive backing – mounts horizontally or vertically on the inside of the glass, wherever you want the reading taken from.
  • No battery required – it's a liquid-crystal strip gauge rather than a probe-and-display unit, so there's nothing to replace.
  • Small footprint – sized for Creatures-style nano and small terrariums rather than large display vivariums.

Zoo Med doesn't publish a numeric temperature range or accuracy tolerance for this strip gauge on its own product page – if you need a guaranteed accuracy figure for a critical basking zone, a probe-and-display digital thermometer is the better tool for that job.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: small terrariums housing invertebrates (scorpions, spiders, insects) and small reptiles or amphibians, as a simple at-a-glance temperature check.
  • Not suitable for: precision monitoring of a basking spot or heat gradient – use a probe thermometer or thermostat probe for that, since this gauge reads ambient glass-side temperature rather than a specific measured point.
Care and maintenance

Wipe clean with a damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners on the display strip. Re-adhere or replace if the backing lifts with humidity over time – humid enclosures will shorten the life of any adhesive-backed gauge.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law in addition to any manufacturer undertakings. Standard shipping from Brisbane / North Lakes; no special freight handling required.

Common questions

Does this need a battery?

No. It's a liquid-crystal adhesive strip, not a probe-and-display electronic unit, so there's no battery to fit or replace.

Can I use this for a basking zone?

It's better suited to a general ambient reading. For checking a specific basking spot temperature, a probe thermometer or an infrared temp gun gives a more precise, point-specific reading.

Will it work in a humid enclosure?

It will read temperature fine, but sustained high humidity can eventually lift adhesive-backed gauges – check the bond periodically and re-stick or replace as needed.
