Zoo Med Paludarium Heater
A fully submersible heater built for the water side of a paludarium, with an automatic shut-off if it's ever lifted clear of the water. The Zoo Med Paludarium Heater is a digital, programmable heater designed for the mixed land-and-water habitats reptile and amphibian keepers build – set the target temperature once and the digital thermostat holds it.
Key features
- Digital, programmable thermostat – set any target between 20–34°C (68–93°F) rather than relying on a fixed preset.
- Auto shut-off if removed from water – the heater switches off if it's lifted clear of the water, reducing the risk of it running dry.
- Fully submersible – designed to sit in the water section of a paludarium or vivarium.
- Extra-long 3 m cord – enough reach to route the plug well clear of the enclosure to a power point at bench height.
- Two wattages – 25 W for smaller water features, 100 W for larger paludarium water sections.

These volumes are converted from Zoo Med's US-gallon ratings and are a guide rather than an exact Australian-market figure.
Will it fit my paludarium?
Match the wattage to the water volume in the aquatic section of your build, not the total footprint of the enclosure – a paludarium's land area doesn't count toward the water volume the heater needs to warm. Where your water section sits between the two ratings, size up rather than down; an undersized heater will run constantly and may still struggle to hold target temperature in cooler months.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the water reservoir of a paludarium, vivarium or riparium. Not designed to heat the land or basking side of the enclosure – that needs a separate heat lamp or ceramic heat emitter mounted above the land area.
Safety
Confirm the voltage and current rating printed on the heater body or plug before use – Zoo Med's published specification for this model doesn't state a voltage figure on the sources we checked, and stock sourced from different markets can differ. Fit the heater fully submerged, never let the cord run through standing water to the power point, and run it from a circuit protected by an RCD safety switch, as recommended for any aquatic appliance.
Warranty and delivery
Backed by Zoo Med's 1-year manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery – no special freight handling required.
Common questions
Do I need a separate heater for the land side of my paludarium?
Yes. This heater only warms the water reservoir. The land or basking area needs its own heat source, typically a heat lamp or ceramic heat emitter mounted above it.
What happens if the water level drops too low?
The heater automatically shuts off if it's exposed to air or lifted out of the water, which helps prevent it running dry.
Can I set an exact target temperature?
Yes – the thermostat is digital and programmable across 20–34°C (68–93°F), rather than a single fixed preset.
What voltage does this heater run on?
Zoo Med's published specifications for this model don't state a voltage figure on the sources we checked. Check the rating printed on the heater or plug before use, and if in doubt, ask us before installing it.
