Zoo Med Repti Heat Cable 25w 4.5m
Belly heat and warm zones without an open bulb. The Zoo Med Repti Heat Cable is a flexible 25 W heating cable, 4.5 m (14.75 ft) long, designed to be wrapped around branches and cage furniture or run beneath a tank to create localised warm zones for reptiles and amphibians. Zoo Med sizes this length for enclosures in the 10–20 US gallon range.
Key features
- 25 W, 4.5 m length — enough cable to wrap branches, line the back of an enclosure, or run under a tank.
- Flexible cable format — creates warm zones and belly heat without the open surface of a lamp or ceramic emitter.
- Water-resistant construction — suited to the humidity of naturalistic and planted terrariums.
- Cool lead section — the first stretch of cable runs cool, so wiring at the enclosure edge doesn't add heat where you don't want it.

Installation
Wrap the cable around branches or cage furniture, or run it beneath the enclosure or under substrate to create a warm zone. Secure it with heat-resistant tape rather than ordinary tape. Keep the cable itself out of direct contact with animals — it's a heat source for the enclosure, not something for an animal to rest directly on.
Safety
Use with a thermostat or rheostat, which Zoo Med recommends particularly where room temperature runs at 27°C (80°F) or above — without one, a heat cable left on a fixed high setting can overheat an enclosure. As with any mains-powered heating device, check the cable for damage before each use and keep connections away from water.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for creating warm zones or belly heat in terrariums and vivariums within its recommended size range. Not a substitute for overhead basking heat where a species needs a distinct basking spot — pair it with a basking lamp for species that bask, and use the cable for background or belly warmth.
Goes well with
Pairs with a thermostat to control output automatically, and with a digital thermometer placed at animal level to confirm the warm zone is reaching the target range.

Common questions
Do I need a thermostat with this cable?
Zoo Med recommends one, especially in warmer rooms — running the cable without any temperature control risks the warm zone drifting hotter than intended.
Can I bury it under substrate?
Zoo Med's own instructions describe using the cable above or below substrate. Whichever way you install it, keep the animal from direct contact with the cable itself.
What size enclosure is this cable meant for?
Zoo Med recommends this 4.5 m length for enclosures in the 10–20 US gallon range. Larger enclosures may need a longer cable or an additional heat source.
Does this replace a basking lamp?
No. It creates background or belly warmth rather than a focused basking spot — species that need to bask still need an overhead heat source as well.
