Do I need liquid fertiliser if I already use root tabs?
It depends on your plants. Root tabs (Flourish Tabs) feed root-feeding species through the substrate, while liquid Flourish feeds through the water column for plants that take up nutrients through their leaves, like stem plants and floaters. Many planted tanks run both.
What's the difference between Flourish and Flourish Excel?
Flourish is a broad trace and micro-element supplement. Flourish Excel is specifically a bioavailable carbon source – it's often used as a substitute for a pressurised CO2 system, not as a replacement for Flourish itself.
How do I know which individual nutrient (Iron, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Trace) my tank needs?
Watch your plants: pale new growth often points to iron, stunted growth or yellowing leaves to nitrogen, and yellowing or pinholed older leaves to potassium. If you're not seeing a specific deficiency, the comprehensive Flourish alone (plus Excel if relevant) is usually enough to start.
Can I dose more than one Flourish product on the same day?
Generally yes, but Seachem's own guidance for Flourish Trace specifically recommends alternating it with regular Flourish on different days rather than combining them – check the note for your selected product above.
