API Algae Eater Wafers

Sinking wafers made for plecos, bristlenose and other algae eaters. API Algae Eater Wafers are described by API as a complete and balanced diet for algae-eating fish, including plecos (Plecostomus), Ancistrus (bristlenose) and Otocinclus. The wafer sinks to the bottom where these fish feed, and contains a blend of algae with omega-3 fatty acids, plus alfalfa as a source of fibre.

Key features
  • Sinking wafer that reaches bottom-dwelling grazers rather than being eaten mid-water.
  • Algae and omega-3 blend, which API includes to support healthy growth, with alfalfa for fibre.
  • Easily absorbed protein: API formulates the protein so fish use more of it and release less ammonia (a toxic waste fish give off), for cleaner water.
  • Long feeding window to suit the slow, often night-time feeding of algae eaters.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for plecos, bristlenose, Otocinclus and other algae-eating fish in freshwater aquariums. API states the wafers will not harm shrimp or snails, but that shrimp and snails need a different food source to meet their nutritional needs, so do not rely on it as their main food.

Care

Feed up to twice a day. To suit the slower feeding habits of most algae eaters, give the amount your fish will eat within 2 hours, then remove anything left over. Some algae eaters feed at night, so dropping the wafer in after the lights go off helps it reach them. API notes the wafers are not known to cause algae blooms, but uneaten food left on the bottom can feed algae. Keep the lid closed and the pack dry.

Warranty and delivery

API does not publish a warranty for this consumable. Any help we give with a faulty pack is in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships by standard parcel post.
