Colour & specimen: This fish's colouration may look different in your own tank depending on your lighting, diet, stress levels and water conditions, and can vary between individual fish of the same species. You will not receive this exact fish pictured; the one you receive will be a similar size, colour and condition.
WA & TAS orders: state biosecurity regulations restrict which live animals can be sent to Western Australia and Tasmania — please check what we can send to you before ordering. See delivery info
API Tropical Pellet Food
One food, twice a day, for the whole community tank. API Tropical Pellets are a daily sinking pellet for tropical community fish — tetras, barbs, angelfish and similar mixed-tank species. They carry 37% minimum protein and come in 45 g and 119 g packs.
Key features
- Sinking pellet — reaches mid-water and bottom-feeding tankmates, not just surface feeders.
- 37% minimum protein — a daily-diet formula, not a treat food.
- Fish meal, squid meal and shrimp meal as protein sources — see the full ingredient declaration below.
- Garlic powder included — added for palatability with fussy feeders.
- Two pack sizes — 45 g for a single small tank, 119 g for a bigger tank or multiple tanks.

Ingredients
API Tropical Pellets share a guaranteed analysis with API Tropical Mini Pellets, confirmed independently across two sources, and the two are marketed as the same daily formulation at different pellet sizes. The ingredient panel below is transcribed verbatim from the Mini Pellets packaging rather than independently re-checked against this pack's own print — flagged for a physical-pack check if exact wording matters to you:
Whole Wheat, Whole Menhaden Fish Meal, Squid Meal, Wheat Flour, Shrimp Meal, Pea Protein, Brewers Dried Yeast, Cane Molasses, Fish Oil, Dried Seaweed Meal (Fucaceae), Hydrated Sodium Calcium Aluminosilicate, Banana Flour, Vitamins and Minerals (L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate [Vitamin C], Inositol, dl-Alpha-Tocopherol Acetate [Vitamin E], Nicotinic Acid, Calcium Pantothenate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Ferrous Sulphate, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Vitamin B1 Supplement, Manganese Oxide, Zinc Oxide, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex [Vitamin K], Vitamin A Acetate, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Copper Sulphate, Biotin, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Calcium Iodate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Sodium Molybdate), Garlic Powder, Choline Chloride, L-Lysine, DL-Methionine, L-Threonine, Vanilla Powder, BHA, Citric Acid and Propyl Gallate (as preservatives).

Feeding directions
Feed twice a day, only as much as your fish will eat within 3 minutes. Overfeeding is the more common mistake — uneaten pellets foul the water rather than feeding anyone.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for:
- Tropical community fish — tetras, barbs, angelfish, danios and similar mixed-species tanks
- Fish that feed mid-water or on the substrate, since the pellet sinks
Not suitable for:
- Very small-mouthed fish that can't manage a standard pellet — see API Tropical Mini Pellets instead
- Surface-only feeders as a sole food, since this pellet is designed to sink
Warranty and delivery
As a consumable food, no manufacturer warranty period applies. That doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law: if the product is faulty, unsafe or not as described, you're entitled to a remedy. Ships as standard freight.
Goes well with
- API Tropical Pellet Food (Mini) 48gm — for smaller-mouthed tankmates in the same community.
- API Vacation Fish Feeder Block — for feeding continuity while you're away.
- API Freshwater Master Multi Test Kit 5 in 1 — keep an eye on water quality alongside a daily feeding routine.
Common questions
Does this pellet float or sink?
It sinks, which reaches mid-water and bottom-dwelling fish as well as surface feeders — useful in a mixed community tank.
How much should I feed?
Only as much as your fish can eat within 3 minutes, twice a day. Uneaten food breaks down and adds to your bioload rather than feeding anyone.
Is this the same food as the Mini Pellets?
It's the same guaranteed analysis and appears to be the same formulation at a larger pellet size — the ingredient panel above is transcribed from the Mini Pellets pack rather than independently confirmed against this pack's print, so treat it as very likely but not certified identical.
Will this suit a betta or a small nano tank?
The standard pellet can be large for very small mouths. API Tropical Mini Pellets are sized for smaller community fish and nano tanks.
What's the difference between the 45 g and 119 g packs?
Same food, same guaranteed analysis — the 119 g pack is simply better value per gram for a bigger tank or multiple tanks.
