Aqua Medic 50mS Test Fluid 60ml
A salinity meter reading "35 ppt" only means something if it was checked against a real reference first. Aqua Medic's 50mS Test Fluid is a 60 ml calibration standard at the high end of the conductivity scale, matching the range used for salinity checks on reef and marine aquariums, so a probe can be verified against a known value rather than trusted blind.
Key features
- Fixed 50 mS/cm reference value – sits in the range of full-strength seawater, where marine and reef tanks are run.
- 60 ml bottle – enough for several calibration checks.
- Pairs with the 250µS fluid – together they give a two-point calibration spanning low and high conductivity.
Specifications

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for checking and calibrating conductivity or salinity meters on reef and marine aquariums at full seawater strength. Not suitable for verifying low-range readings such as RO/DI product water – use the 250µS fluid for that – and not intended to be added to aquarium water.
Care and maintenance
Recalibrate at the interval your meter manufacturer recommends. Use fresh fluid for each check rather than reusing exposed fluid, and reseal the bottle promptly to protect the reference value.
Safety
For electrode calibration only – not for consumption and not for addition to aquarium water. Avoid contact with eyes and skin; rinse with water if contact occurs.
Goes well with
Aqua Medic 250µS Test Fluid for low-range calibration, and Aqua Medic 230mV Redox Test Fluid if the same controller also monitors ORP.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Aqua Medic's standard guarantee against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery.
Common questions
Is 50mS the same as full-strength saltwater?
It sits in the conductivity range typical of full-strength seawater, which is why this fluid is the one used to check salinity meters on marine and reef systems.
What's the difference between this and the 250µS fluid?
This 50mS fluid checks the high end of the scale – reef and marine salinity. The 250µS fluid checks the low end, such as RO/DI product water.
How often should I recalibrate?
Follow your meter manufacturer's recommended schedule, and check sooner if a reading looks inconsistent with a manual refractometer or hydrometer check.
Is this fluid safe to add to my tank?
No. It's a calibration standard for the electrode only, not a water treatment.
