Aqua Medic Smart Drift 7.1 Current Pump-10,500L/H
Mid-range flow for tanks up to 800 litres, with WiFi app control built in. The Aqua Medic Smart Drift 7.1 is a magnetic-drive circulation pump rated up to 10,500 L/h, the middle model in Aqua Medic's three-unit Smart Drift range.
It sits between the compact 3.1 and the large-tank 11.1, sized for standard to large reef and freshwater systems that need real turnover without stepping up to the largest pump body.
Key features
- Up to 10,500 L/h — continuously adjustable from the controller or the Aqua Medic App.
- WiFi app control — connects over 2.4GHz WiFi to the Aqua Medic App (not Bluetooth), so you can adjust flow patterns from your phone without standing at the tank.
- 8–25 W power draw — 24V DC pump head, run through the included 100–240V/50–60Hz transformer, which accepts Australian 230V/50Hz mains.
- Magnetic mount — holds through glass up to 12mm thick.
- Multi-pump sync — master–slave and cross-flow patterns across two or more units.
- Feed pause — one-touch pause on the controller for feeding time.
- Fully submersible — rated IP X8.

Performance — controllable flow range
The 7.1 is continuously adjustable from the controller or app rather than running at one fixed speed, in the same way as the rest of the Smart Drift range. Aqua Medic documents this control system on the smaller Smart Drift 3.1 as a 30–100% range of its rated maximum; the company doesn't publish an equivalent minimum-flow figure in L/h specifically for the 7.1, so we won't put a number on the low end here — expect a usefully wide adjustable range, not a single 10,500 L/h fixed output.
Which Smart Drift do I need?
| Model | Max flow | Power | Recommended tank | Body size | Max glass |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Smart Drift 3.1 | 4,600 L/h | 3–15 W | Up to 300 L | Ø65 × 55mm | 10 mm |
| Smart Drift 7.1 | 10,500 L/h | 8–25 W | Up to 800 L | Ø75 × 65mm | 12 mm |
| Smart Drift 11.1 | 16,000 L/h | 10–35 W | Up to 1,500 L | Ø85 × 70mm | 15 mm |
The 7.1 is a genuinely larger pump than the 3.1, not the same unit turned up — a bigger body, a thicker maximum glass rating, and roughly double the tank size guideline. If you're running a display over 300 L but under 800 L, this is the size to start with rather than the 3.1 or the 11.1.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine tanks up to roughly 800 L. Not intended for glass over 12mm — check your tank's glass or acrylic thickness before ordering, and step up to the 11.1 if you need to mount through thicker glass regardless of tank size.
Goes well with
Run two 7.1 units in cross-flow sync for even circulation across a wide tank, or add a Smart Drift 3.1 in a sump or frag section on the same app.
Warranty and delivery

Common questions
Does the Smart Drift 7.1 need WiFi to work?
No — the included physical controller runs the pump on its own. WiFi and the Aqua Medic App add remote control and extra flow patterns but aren't required for day-to-day operation.
What's the difference between the 7.1 and the 11.1?
The 11.1 is the larger of the two: up to 16,000 L/h against the 7.1's 10,500 L/h, a bigger pump body, and a higher maximum glass thickness (15mm versus 12mm). Aqua Medic rates the 7.1 for tanks up to 800 L and the 11.1 for tanks up to 1,500 L.
Is it fully submersible?
Yes — Aqua Medic rates the 7.1 at IP X8.
Does it have a feeding mode?
Yes — a one-touch feed pause on the controller stops flow for feeding.
