Aquavitro Shrimp Cubes 5 pcs.
Five stackable ceramic dens shrimp actually use. Aquavitro Shrimp Cubes are a set of five small hollow ceramic cubes from Seachem's aquavitro shrimp care range, each about 2 x 2 x 2 cm. Stack them into towers, walls or scattered dens - every cube is a bolt-hole for a moulting or berried shrimp, and every ceramic surface grows the biofilm and fine algae shrimp graze on.
Key features
- Set of 5 hollow ceramic cubes - each approximately 2 x 2 x 2 cm, small enough to use several per nano tank.
- Stackable in any configuration - rebuild the layout any time without committing to a fixed aquascape.
- Grows biofilm and fine algae - the ceramic surface becomes a grazing ground shrimp return to on its own, on top of working as a hide.
- Aquarium-safe ceramic - inert in both freshwater and saltwater, so it won't affect water chemistry.
- Doubles as moulting and breeding cover - shrimp are at their most vulnerable just after moulting and while carrying eggs, and a hollow cube gives them somewhere to retreat.

Setting them up
- Rinse each cube under tap water before adding it to the tank.
- Stack them as towers, scatter them individually, or build a wall - there's no fixed way to arrange them.
- Give the biofilm a few weeks to establish on the ceramic surface before expecting to see shrimp grazing on it regularly.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: shrimp and nano tanks, breeding setups where berried females need seclusion, and any freshwater or saltwater aquarium wanting extra hard-surface area for biofilm and grazing.
Not suitable for: tanks with large or boisterous fish likely to knock a stack over, since these are lightweight and freestanding rather than fixed in place.
Goes well with
- Aquavitro Shrimp Dome, for a mix of enclosed and low-profile hides in the same tank.
- A fine leaf litter or botanicals layer, which grows biofilm alongside the ceramic surfaces for extra grazing.
- A sponge filter, which is gentle enough for a shrimp-only tank stocked with these hides.
Warranty and delivery
Ceramic is inert and doesn't carry a manufacturer warranty term as such; your rights under the Australian Consumer Law cover faults regardless. Standard parcel freight applies.
Common questions
Do I need to cycle these before shrimp use them?
No cycling is required for the cubes themselves - just rinse before adding them. The biofilm that shrimp graze on builds up naturally over the following weeks once the cubes are in the tank.
Will these raise my pH or hardness?
No. The ceramic is inert and won't affect water chemistry.
Can I use these in a saltwater tank?
Yes, AquaVitro markets these for both freshwater and saltwater use.
How many cubes does a nano tank need?
AquaVitro doesn't publish a stocking guide for this. As a general rule, more hides reduce stress in a colony of shrimp, so a full 5-cube set stacked into two or three small groups suits most nano setups.
