Aquavitro Shrimp Dome

A shaded hide shrimp can see out of. The Aquavitro Shrimp Dome is a low, perforated ceramic mound from Seachem's aquavitro shrimp care range, about 5.5 x 5.5 x 2.75 cm. Randomly sized holes let water flow through and shrimp come and go freely, while the shade underneath gives a quiet retreat during moulting and breeding.

Key features
  • Low-profile dome, approx. 5.5 x 5.5 x 2.75 cm - sits flat on the substrate without taking up much footprint.
  • Randomly perforated shell - gives shrimp several entry and exit points rather than a single tunnel, and keeps water moving through underneath.
  • Shade and seclusion - reduces stress and predation risk, and gives extra protection right after a moult when shrimp are softest.
  • Grows biofilm on the ceramic surface - an ongoing grazing source, not just a hide.
  • Aquarium-safe ceramic - inert in freshwater and saltwater.
Specifications
Dimensions Approx. 5.5 x 5.5 x 2.75 cm
Material Aquarium-safe ceramic
Water type Freshwater and saltwater
Preparation Rinse under tap water before use
Setting it up
  1. Rinse under tap water before placing it in the tank.
  2. Set it directly on the substrate wherever shrimp activity is highest, or near cover where a berried female is likely to retreat.
  3. Leave it in place for a few weeks to let biofilm establish before expecting shrimp to graze on it regularly.
Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for: shrimp and nano tanks, breeding setups, and any freshwater or saltwater aquarium wanting a low-profile hide that doesn't block the view of the tank.

Not suitable for: tanks where larger fish are likely to flip or dislodge a lightweight, freestanding piece of decor.

Goes well with
  • Aquavitro Shrimp Cubes, stacked nearby for a mix of enclosed and open shelter.
  • Fine substrate, which lets the dome sit flush rather than rocking on an uneven base.
  • A sponge or low-flow filter suited to shrimp-only tanks.
Warranty and delivery

Ceramic is inert and doesn't carry a manufacturer warranty term as such; your rights under the Australian Consumer Law cover faults regardless. Standard parcel freight applies.

Common questions

Will the holes let shrimp escape and get stuck?

The openings are sized for shrimp to pass through freely rather than get trapped in; the dome is designed as an open-access hide, not an enclosed trap.

Can I use this with fish as well as shrimp?

Yes, though it's designed and marketed around shrimp care specifically. Small fish that appreciate cover can use it too.

Does it affect water chemistry?

No. The ceramic is inert in both freshwater and saltwater.

How is this different from the Shrimp Cubes?

The Cubes are hollow and stackable into towers or walls; the Dome is a single low mound that sits flat with multiple openings. Many keepers use both for different types of cover in the same tank.
