Blade Refugium 12in (30.74cm) 20w
A 20 W horticultural LED bar built specifically to grow macroalgae in a refugium, not to light display corals. The Blade Fuge runs a red-and-blue spectrum across 24 LEDs, spread evenly along a 12.1 in (30.7 cm) bar, and ships with the same low-profile rest mount that lets it sit flush on the sump or refugium's own walls.
Key features
- Horticultural red/blue spectrum – 24 LEDs (6 red, 6 royal blue, 6 cool white, 6 at 430 nm) tuned for macroalgae photosynthesis rather than coral colour.
- EdgeField optics, 95° spread – mixes colour evenly along the length of the bar instead of leaving hot spots under each diode.
- App-controlled via Aqua Illumination's Mobius app (iOS/Android), and it integrates with Neptune Fusion or Apex controllers if you're already running one.
- Low-profile rest mount included – extends up to 4.5 in (11.4 cm) each side, so the bar sits flush on the refugium or sump without extra hardware.
- Universal input voltage – 100–240 VAC, 50–60 Hz, so it runs on Australian 240 V/50 Hz mains through the included adapter.

Performance
Aqua Illumination markets the Blade Fuge on its LED spectrum and optics rather than a published PAR or PPFD chart, and no depth-based light output figures are available from the manufacturer at the time of writing. If you need a measured PAR reading at your own refugium's water depth, a PAR meter reading taken after setup is the only reliable way to get one – we haven't been able to source a manufacturer chart for this specific model.
Will it fit my sump or refugium?
At 12.1 in (30.7 cm) long, this bar suits refugium sections and sumps in roughly that length range. The included rest mount extends up to 4.5 in (11.4 cm) on each side, so it can bridge a slightly wider gap than the bar itself, up to about 21 in (53 cm) wall-to-wall. Aqua Illumination doesn't publish a maximum wall thickness or weight rating for the mount, so on an unusual sump layout it's worth checking the fit before ordering.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for growing chaeto and other macroalgae in a marine refugium or sump section, and for anyone running reverse-photoperiod lighting to help stabilise pH and nutrient export.
- Not intended as display or coral-growth lighting – the spectrum is chosen for macroalgae, not coral colour or PAR-driven coral placement.
- Not suitable as a stand-alone display light for a show tank.
What's included
- Blade Fuge 12" 20 W fixture
- Power adapter
- Low-profile tank rest mount
Running costs
At 20 W and a typical refugium photoperiod of around 10 hours a day (commonly run on a reverse cycle to the display tank), that works out to roughly 73 kWh a year – about $21.90 a year at 30c/kWh. Actual cost will move with your own photoperiod and electricity tariff, and the Mobius app lets you set and adjust the schedule.
Safety
Mains-powered via the included external adapter – keep the adapter itself clear of splash. Aqua Illumination's own Blade product page states the Blade Fuge light bar itself meets IP66 (highest protection against dust ingress, high protection against water jets) – the same rating as the bundled tank rest mount.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Aqua Illumination's standard fixture warranty in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a small parcel – standard freight.
Common questions
Can I use this to light corals instead of a refugium?
You can run it over a display tank, but its red/blue horticultural spectrum is chosen for macroalgae growth, not for coral colour or PAR-driven placement, so it isn't the right choice for a coral display.
Does it come with everything I need to mount it?
Yes – it ships with the low-profile tank rest mount already included, so no separate mounting purchase is needed for a straightforward flush fit.
Will it run on Australian power?
Yes. The power adapter accepts 100–240 VAC at 50–60 Hz, which covers 240 V/50 Hz Australian mains.
Can I control it with my Apex or Fusion system?
Yes – Aqua Illumination lists Neptune Fusion and Apex compatibility alongside its own Mobius app.
Does Aqua Illumination publish a PAR chart for this light?
Not that we've been able to find. If PAR at your specific mounting depth matters for your setup, we'd recommend a direct meter reading once it's installed – happy to help you figure out placement in the meantime.
