Exo Terra Small Tall Terrarium 45 x 45 x 60cm
A middle-height glass home for species that climb as well as walk the floor. The Exo Terra Small Tall Terrarium (45 × 45 × 60 cm) is a front-opening all-glass enclosure that adds 15 cm of climbing height over the Small Wide in the same range, without going to the full height – and extra empty air to heat – of the Small X-Tall. Sold in Australia as SKU EGT04, it's the Exo Terra Natural Terrarium Small Tall, manufacturer part number PT2607.
Key features
- Dual front-opening, lockable doors – full access without reaching in from above.
- Full stainless steel mesh top – completely removable, rated by the manufacturer for ventilation and UVB penetration.
- Extra-high front window – the manufacturer notes this suits a deeper substrate layer or a part-water, part-land build.
- Raised, waterproof base – built to take a substrate heater underneath and hold a deeper substrate or drainage layer without leaking.
- Dual ventilation system – designed by the manufacturer to reduce condensation build-up on the front glass.
- Five closable wire/tube inlets on both sides – routes probes, cables and misting lines cleanly.
- Rock-effect background panel included – cuttable, natural-look backing.

Which size do I need?
All three terrariums in this line share the same 45 × 45 cm footprint and differ only in height, so the choice comes down to how your species uses vertical space.
| Model | Footprint | Height | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small Wide | 45 × 45 cm | 45 cm | Ground-dwelling species – more floor than climbing height |
| Small Tall (this one) | 45 × 45 cm | 60 cm | Species that climb and bask – a balance of floor and height |
| Small X-Tall | 45 × 45 cm | 90 cm | Strongly arboreal species and paludarium builds needing the most vertical space |
What's included / what you'll still need
Included: the glass enclosure, dual lockable doors, removable mesh top, raised waterproof base and the rock-effect background panel. Not included: heating (mat or lamp), UVB or basking lighting, a thermostat, substrate, décor and hides, or a water dish – all sold separately to suit the species going in.
Suitable for – and not suitable for
Suited to species that use both the floor and the walls – climbing geckos, tree frogs and similar animals that need height to move and bask as well as ground space. Not the most floor-efficient option for a strictly terrestrial species that never climbs – the Small Wide gives more usable floor for the same footprint.
Safety
The enclosure itself isn't mains-powered, but almost everything installed inside one is – heat mats, lamps, thermostats. Always run heating through a thermostat rated for the wattage in use, and follow the manufacturer's safety instructions for whatever lamp or mat you add.
Care and maintenance
Wipe the glass and mesh top down as part of routine cleaning, and check the door locks and mesh clips periodically for wear.
Goes well with
- An Exo Terra heat mat sized to the enclosure, mounted on the raised base.
- A basking lamp or UVB fixture mounted on the mesh top, sized to reach a safe distance within the 60 cm height.
- Substrate and décor suited to your species' natural habitat.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, in addition to any manufacturer term. Ships from our Brisbane / North Lakes warehouse – being a large glass item, it's boxed for transit; contact us if you'd like a freight estimate before ordering.
Common questions
Does this include heating or lighting?
No. The terrarium is the enclosure only – heat mats, lamps, thermostats and UVB lighting are sold separately so you can match them to your species.
What's the difference between the Small Tall and the Small X-Tall?
Both share the same 45 × 45 cm footprint. The Small Tall is 60 cm high; the Small X-Tall is 90 cm. The extra 30 cm on the X-Tall suits strongly arboreal species or a taller paludarium build – it also means more air volume to heat and light.
Will a basking lamp fit safely at this height?
Most basking lamps and UVB fixtures mount on the mesh top and work within a 60 cm enclosure, but the safe minimum mounting distance is set by the lamp, not the enclosure – check the gradient table published on the specific lamp's own product page before buying.
Is there a lock on the doors?
Yes – both front-opening doors have a locking mechanism.
