Exo Terra Small Wide Terrarium 45 x 45 x 45cm
A ground-level glass home for animals that live on the floor, not up a wall. The Exo Terra Small Wide Terrarium (45 × 45 × 45 cm) is a front-opening all-glass enclosure with a square footprint, giving more usable floor area relative to height than the Small Tall or Small X-Tall in the same range. It suits ground-dwelling geckos and skinks, terrestrial invertebrates, and other species that spend most of their time at substrate level rather than climbing. Sold in Australia as SKU EGT03, it's the Exo Terra Natural Terrarium Small Wide, manufacturer part number PT2605.
Key features
- Dual front-opening, lockable doors — access without reaching in from above, which is less startling for ground-dwelling and skittish species.
- Full stainless steel mesh top — removable for maintenance, and rated by the manufacturer for ventilation and UVB penetration.
- Raised, waterproof base — built to take a substrate heater underneath and to hold a deeper substrate or drainage layer without leaking.
- Five closable wire/tube inlets on both sides — routes probes, cables and misting lines without leaving a permanent gap.
- Rock-effect background panel included — a cuttable, natural-look backing rather than a bare glass rear wall.

Which size do I need?
All three terrariums in this line share the same 45 × 45 cm footprint and differ only in height, so the choice comes down to how your species uses vertical space.
| Model | Footprint | Height | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small Wide (this one) | 45 × 45 cm | 45 cm | Ground-dwelling species — more floor than climbing height |
| Small Tall | 45 × 45 cm | 60 cm | Species that climb and bask — a balance of floor and height |
| Small X-Tall | 45 × 45 cm | 90 cm | Strongly arboreal species and paludarium builds needing the most vertical space |
What's included / what you'll still need
Included: the glass enclosure, dual lockable doors, removable mesh top, raised waterproof base and the rock-effect background panel. Not included: heating (mat or lamp), UVB or basking lighting, a thermostat, substrate, décor and hides, or a water dish — all sold separately to suit the species going in.
Suitable for — and not suitable for
Suited to ground-dwelling lizards, terrestrial invertebrates and other species that spend most of their time at floor level. Not the best choice as the sole enclosure for strongly arboreal species that need more height to climb and bask than 45 cm allows — the Small Tall or Small X-Tall suit those better.
Safety
The enclosure itself isn't mains-powered, but almost every setup built inside one is — heat mats, lamps and thermostats. Follow the safety instructions for whatever heating and lighting you add, and always run heating through a thermostat rated for the wattage in use.
Care and maintenance
Wipe the glass and mesh top down as part of routine cleaning, and check the door locks and mesh clips periodically for wear.
Goes well with
- An Exo Terra heat mat sized to the enclosure, mounted on the raised base.
- Substrate and décor suited to your species' natural habitat.
- A digital thermometer and hygrometer to check conditions at floor level.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, in addition to any manufacturer term. Ships from our Brisbane / North Lakes warehouse — being a large glass item, it's boxed for transit; contact us if you'd like a freight estimate before ordering.
Common questions
Does this include heating or lighting?
No. The terrarium is the enclosure only — heat mats, lamps, thermostats and UVB lighting are sold separately so you can match them to your species.
Is the internal height the same as the 45 cm external measurement?
It's slightly less once the raised waterproof base is accounted for. Exo Terra doesn't publish an exact internal figure, so leave a margin when checking a lamp's minimum mounting distance against this enclosure's height.
Can I keep an aquatic turtle in this?
Not as a fully aquatic setup — this is a dry-glass terrarium, though the waterproof base suits a partial water section for paludarium-style builds. For a fully aquatic turtle enclosure, look at a dedicated aquatic setup instead.
Is there a lock on the doors?
Yes — both front-opening doors have a locking mechanism.
