Suitable for basking reptiles that need both UVB and heat from above, in an enclosure with enough height to keep the animal at least 30 cm from the bulb's surface. It cannot be run on a dimmer or thermostat, so the temperature is set by the wattage you choose and the height of the bulb: check the basking spot with a thermometer before the animal goes in. Not a night heat source, because it gives off bright light.

Use only a fixture with a ceramic (porcelain) socket rated for at least the bulb's wattage; Exo Terra warns that a plastic socket is a fire hazard. Mount it so the bulb points straight down, not at an angle. Do not use it with a dimmer or thermostat. Keep the animal at least 30 cm from the bulb. The glass gets very hot, so let it cool before handling. The bulb contains mercury, so take a spent bulb to a lamp recycling drop-off rather than the household bin.
