Fluval 206 Motor/Pump Unit
A worn motor is the one 206 fault a service kit cannot fix.
This is the complete replacement motor head assembly for the Fluval 206 Canister Filter (model A207), covering the impeller assembly, shaft and impeller cover, plus the case clips that hold the motor head to the canister body. It is the part to reach for once cleaning, new media and a fresh impeller cover haven't brought the flow or the quiet running back.
Key features
- Complete motor head assembly – impeller, shaft and cover supplied together, so a worn or scored shaft doesn't get left to wear out a brand-new impeller.
- Case clips included – the plastic latches are a common failure point in their own right, and a filter with a cracked clip won't seal properly even with a good motor.
- Restores flow lost to wear – a magnetic impeller loses grip as its magnet weakens or its shaft grooves out, and flow falls off gradually rather than stopping outright, so it's easy to run a 206 under-performing for months without noticing.
- Direct replacement – fits the existing 206 canister body and motor head housing with no modification.

Will it fit my filter?
This assembly is specific to the 206 (model A207). It is not interchangeable with the 204, 205, or with the 07-series canisters (105/205 predecessors aside, the 107/207/307/407 line uses different motor heads entirely). Check the model code on your canister body before ordering – the 205 and 206 look similar side by side but do not share a motor head.
| Filter model | Fluval model code | Fits this assembly |
|---|---|---|
| 205 | A206 | No |
| 206 | A207 | Yes |
| 207 | A443 | No |
What's included
- 1 x impeller assembly (impeller and magnet)
- 1 x impeller shaft
- 1 x impeller cover
- Case clips
Not included
- The motor head housing itself. This kit rebuilds the existing housing; it does not replace the outer motor head casing.
- The motor head seal ring or gasket. Sold separately – fit a new one at the same time if yours is more than a season or two old.
- Filter media. Foam, bio media and polishing pads are bought separately.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for a 206 with reduced flow after ruling out clogged media and a kinked hose, a shaft that has visibly grooved or scored, a weak or wobbling impeller, or case clips that have cracked or lost their spring.
Not suitable for the 204, 205 or the 07-series canisters, which use different motor heads. If your filter is still under a fault that a clean and a new impeller cover haven't touched, check the cover on its own first – see our 206 impeller cover – before assuming the whole motor needs replacing.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the impeller and shaft in tank water at each service, not tap water, and check the shaft for grooving where it sits inside the impeller – a smooth shaft should show no ridges you can feel with a fingernail. A scored shaft is the most common reason a 206 keeps losing flow even with clean media.
Goes well with
- Fluval 206 impeller cover – already included in this kit, but worth keeping a spare on hand
- Fluval bio foam, 106/206/107/207 – fit fresh media when you rebuild the motor head
- Fluval polishing pads, 106/206/107/207, 3 pack – for the final polish stage

Common questions
Will this fit my Fluval 205?
No. The 205 and 206 look alike but use different motor heads. This assembly is for the 206 (model A207) only.
My filter has lost flow but the media is clean – is this the fix?
Check the shaft for grooving and the impeller for a weak magnetic grip first. If those show wear, yes, this restores them. If the shaft is smooth and the impeller spins freely, the cause is more likely clogged media or a kinked hose.
Does this include the impeller cover?
Yes, a new cover is included with the shaft and impeller. You don't need to buy the cover separately if you're replacing the whole assembly.
Do I need any tools to fit it?
No. It hand-fits into the existing motor head housing the same way the original did.
Is this genuine Fluval or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine Fluval replacement assembly, sourced for the 206 Canister Filter.
