Fluval Aquaclear AC50 Filter Media Maintenance Kit
A complete three-stage media refresh for the AquaClear AC50, sized to drop straight into the basket. This kit (Fluval part 19692) bundles one Bio-Foam filter pad, one BIOMAX ceramic media insert and two activated carbon inserts — mechanical, biological and chemical filtration in one box, made specifically for the AC50 power filter.
Key features
- 1 x Bio-Foam Filter Media — the mechanical stage, trapping debris and hosting bacteria.
- 1 x BIOMAX Media — porous ceramic media carrying the bulk of the filter's biological (nitrifying) bacteria.
- 2 x Activated Carbon Media — chemical filtration for odours, discolouration and dissolved organics.
- Drop-in fit — sized for the AC50's media basket, no trimming required.
Will it fit my filter?
Made specifically for the Fluval AquaClear AC50 power filter (rated 76–190 L / 20–50 US gal). It's not interchangeable with the AC20, AC30, AC70 or AC110 kits, which use different-sized media for those filters.

Care and maintenance
Activated carbon works by adsorption and exhausts as it goes, so it's worth checking regularly rather than leaving it in indefinitely — Fluval doesn't publish a single fixed interval for this kit, so watch for reduced clarity or odour control as your cue. Rinse the Bio-Foam in tank water at water changes and give it a full swap when it's visibly compacted. BIOMAX is long-life biological media and doesn't need replacing on the same schedule.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for routine servicing of an AC50 already set up with genuine Fluval media. Not suitable for other AquaClear sizes — check your filter's model number before ordering, as media baskets differ across the range.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Fluval's standard parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery Australia-wide.
Common questions
How often should I replace this kit?
Fluval doesn't publish one fixed number for the AC50 kit — carbon is generally replaced every few weeks to keep chemical filtration active, while the Bio-Foam and BIOMAX last longer and mainly need rinsing.
Will this fit my AC70?
No. The AC70 takes its own, larger kit.
What happens if I leave the carbon in too long?
Once activated carbon is saturated it stops adsorbing and can even release what it's captured back into the water, so it's better to replace it on a schedule than to wait for a visible problem.
