Frozen Veggie Favourites 100g

A vegetable-based frozen food for herbivorous freshwater fish. Ocean Nutrition Frozen Veggie Favourites is a prepared, algae-and-vegetable blend designed to top up the plant matter that grazing species need, without the mess of chopping fresh produce every feed.

It comes as a frozen block in a resealable 100 g blister pack, portioned into individual cubes so you can thaw only what your fish will eat at each feed.

Key features
  • Vegetable and algae base — formulated around algae and vegetables rather than a fish-meal-first recipe, suited to grazing species.
  • Low fat, low protein profile — guaranteed analysis of 0.6% crude fat suits fish that need less protein and more fibre than carnivores.
  • Blister-pack cubes — pre-portioned so you can break off and thaw a single serve instead of defrosting the whole block.
  • Enriched with krill and copepods — a small amount of animal protein is included alongside the plant matter.
  • No preparation beyond thawing — no chopping, blanching or soaking required.
  • Suits mixed community feeding — a useful addition alongside other Ocean Nutrition frozen foods for tanks with both grazers and other feeders.

Suitable for / not suitable for

The manufacturer lists this food as suitable for many African cichlids, catfish (a group that includes plecos and other loricariids), livebearers and other vegetable-grazing freshwater fish. We have not found manufacturer documentation specifically listing marine species such as tangs for this product — if you are feeding a marine herbivore, ask us which Ocean Nutrition marine formula (such as Formula Two or Spirulina Formula) is the better match before buying this one.

It is a food, not a treatment, and does not replace live plant matter or a properly cycled, established aquarium.

Guaranteed analysis
Constituent Guaranteed level
Crude protein 6.3%
Crude fat 0.6%
Crude fibre 0.5%
Ash 1.2%
Moisture 89.5%
Feeding rate and frequency

Feed 2 to 5 times a day, offering only as much as your fish will eat within 5 minutes. Adjust frequency and portion to your stocking level, filtration and water testing rather than feeding on a fixed schedule.

How to thaw and rinse

Break off the amount of cube you need and thaw it in a small container of aquarium or dechlorinated tap water rather than dropping the frozen block straight into the tank. Once thawed, many keepers drain off the surrounding liquid before feeding, which helps keep the water clearer. Feed the thawed portion straight away and discard any that has been sitting out rather than refreezing it once it has fully warmed up.

Can I refreeze food that has partly thawed?

Only if it still contains ice crystals or has stayed cold (below roughly 7°C) for less than two hours. If it has fully thawed and warmed beyond that, discard it rather than refreeze — spoiled food can harm your fish.

Storage and cold-chain note

This product ships and is stored frozen. Keep it in your freezer at home and get it into cold storage as soon as you get it back from us. Common questions

What fish is this food for?

It is formulated for herbivorous and omnivorous freshwater fish that graze on vegetable matter, including many African cichlids, catfish such as plecos, livebearers and similar community species.

Is this a live product?

No. It is a prepared frozen food, not a live animal.

Does it need any preparation besides thawing?

No chopping or soaking is required. Thaw the portion you need in aquarium or dechlorinated water and feed it straight away.

Can I use this as the only food for my fish?

It is designed as part of a varied diet. Most keepers rotate it with other foods rather than feeding it exclusively, and it does not replace live plant matter for grazing species.

Will it cloud my water?

Any frozen food can affect water quality if overfed. Feed only what your fish clear in about 5 minutes and consider draining the thaw liquid before feeding.
