Frozen Whole Krill Superba 100g

A whole-prey treat that gets big predators feeding naturally. Frozen Whole Krill Superba is 100 g of whole Antarctic krill (Krill superba), frozen with nothing else added. The whole-body shape and shell trigger a natural hunting response in larger marine and freshwater fish, and the shell itself adds roughage that finer prepared foods don't provide.

Key features
  • Single ingredient — whole Antarctic krill, nothing else in the pack.
  • Whole-body form — the shell and full shape trigger a stronger feeding response than chopped or minced foods.
  • Natural carotenoids — krill's own pigments can help maintain colour in fish that eat it regularly.
  • Frozen, not dried — no preservatives needed to keep it shelf-stable.

Thawing and storage

Keep the pack in the freezer until you're ready to feed. Break off or cut a portion sized for one feed, thaw it in a little tank or aquarium water, then feed straight away. Never refreeze a thawed portion — thaw only what you'll use in that feeding.

Because it's a frozen product, it needs to stay cold between us and your door, so it's handled separately from non-frozen items in your order.

Feeding rate and frequency

Feed two to five times a day, offering only what your fish will finish within about five minutes. Remove any uneaten krill so it doesn't foul the water.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suits larger marine and freshwater fish, predatory species and invertebrates that can take whole krill. Not sized for small fish, fry or fish with small mouths — a finer frozen food such as brine shrimp is a better fit for those.

Goes well with

Pairs with Ocean Nutrition's frozen Artemia Brine Shrimp for tanks with a mix of large and small fish, and with a feeding clip or tongs for controlled portioning.

Warranty, support and delivery

Store any unused frozen portion in your own freezer and use within a reasonable time for best quality. Handle with care during hot weather while it's out of the freezer.

Common questions

Can I feed whole krill to small fish?

Not really — whole krill is sized for larger fish and predators. Small fish and fry do better with a finer frozen food such as brine shrimp.

Do I need to rinse the krill before feeding?

Thawing it in a little tank water as described above rinses away excess liquid before it goes into the tank, which helps keep the water cleaner.

Can I refreeze krill I've already thawed?

No. Once thawed, feed it — refreezing isn't recommended.

Will this feed marine and freshwater fish?

Yes, whole krill suits both marine and freshwater predatory fish and invertebrates large enough to take it.
