Leopard Rock

One hand-picked piece of Leopard Rock, sold individually. Bioscape Leopard Rock is a natural aquascaping stone with a dark base broken up by pale streaks and mottled spotting – the "leopard" pattern that gives it its name – sold here as a single piece rather than by the kilo or the box, useful for topping up an existing layout or hunting for one specific shape.

Key features
  • Distinctive mottled pattern – a dark base broken by pale streaks and spotting, giving each piece more visual texture than a plain grey or black stone.
  • Sold by the piece, not weight – pick this listing when you want to add or replace a single stone rather than commit to a full box.
  • Each piece is unique – natural stone, so shape, weight and the exact spread of the pattern vary piece to piece; the photo is representative, not the exact piece you'll receive.
  • Pairs well with light gravel – the pale streaking reads best against a light-coloured substrate.
  • Suits caves, ledges and ridgelines – a workable shape for building structure into an existing scape.

Bioscape doesn't publish a weight, dimension or mineral composition figure for the individual piece – it's a natural product picked and sold by the piece, and both size and makeup vary. Unlike Bioscape's Black Seiryu Rock, which is documented as calcareous, no manufacturer or supplier source states whether Leopard Rock is calcareous or inert, so we're not printing a hardness claim we can't confirm.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for freshwater and marine aquascapes, and for terrariums, where a dark, patterned stone is wanted for structure or contrast against light gravel. Because its mineral composition isn't confirmed by the manufacturer, treat it with the same caution you'd apply to any unidentified natural rock in a soft-water or reef setup: bucket-test it before relying on it where stable, low hardness matters, such as for wild-caught shrimp, soft-water tetras or Apistogramma.

Preparation

Rinse the piece thoroughly before adding it to a tank to clear dust and grit from handling. Because the composition isn't confirmed, it's worth a bucket test regardless – leave it in a container of your tap or RO water for a few days and check KH, GH and pH before and after, so you know what to expect once it's in the display tank.

Warranty and delivery

Covered against being not as described under Australian Consumer Law. As a natural product, the piece you receive will vary from the listing photo in exact shape, pattern and colour – that's expected, not a fault.

Common questions

Will this affect my water hardness?

Possibly – Bioscape doesn't publish a mineral composition for Leopard Rock, so we can't say either way with certainty. Bucket-test it in a sample of your tank water for a few days and compare KH, GH and pH before and after if you're running a soft-water setup.

Will I get the exact piece shown in the photo?

No – this is a single natural piece and the photo is representative of the stone type, not a guarantee of the specific piece you'll receive.

What gravel colour suits it best?

A light-coloured gravel or sand shows off the pale streaking and mottling against the stone's dark base.

Can I use it in a terrarium as well as an aquarium?

Yes – it's stocked across our freshwater and marine range and is also suitable for terrarium hardscaping.
