Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp Flat Pack 454g
Whole frozen brine shrimp that almost any fish in the tank can eat. Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp is a single-ingredient frozen food made from artemia enriched with Omega-3 HUFA (highly unsaturated fatty acids), supplied in a 454g flat pack that scores easily into cubes. Because the animals are small and soft-bodied, it suits fry, nano species and adult community fish in the one tank.
Key features
- Single ingredient – artemia only, so there is nothing to react to and nothing to hide behind a long additive list.
- HUFA-enriched – the brine shrimp are boosted with Omega-3 fatty acids before freezing, which plain dried artemia does not carry.
- Small, soft animals – around 1 cm each, easy for small mouths to take without breaking into fine debris.
- Flat pack format – freezes thin, so a corner snaps off cleanly instead of having to chip at a block.
- Freshwater and marine – the same pack works across both setups.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for most freshwater and marine tropical fish, including small community species, fry-safe tank mates and nano fish.
- Not a complete standalone diet for long-term feeding – best rotated with a flake, pellet or other frozen food rather than fed exclusively.
- Not suitable as a first food for very young fry still on infusoria or baby brine shrimp nauplii – the whole animals here are sized for juveniles and adults.
How to thaw and feed
Snap off a small cube or corner of the flat pack and thaw it in a little tank water, then pour the thawed portion (shrimp and all) into the tank. Never refreeze a thawed portion – feed it or discard it. Keep the pack in the freezer between feeds; if it starts to thaw in transit on a hot day, transfer it to your freezer as soon as it arrives and use it promptly rather than refreezing a fully thawed pack.
Which Ocean Nutrition frozen food should I feed?
| Food | Animal size | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Brine Shrimp (this product) | ~1 cm | Small community fish, nano fish, most freshwater and marine species |
| Chopped Cockle | Chopped | Larger predatory marine and freshwater fish |
| Chopped Krill Pacifica | Chopped, from ~1.5–2 cm animals | Small to medium marine and freshwater fish |
| Chopped Krill Superba | Chopped, from ~5 cm animals | Medium to large marine and freshwater fish |
Rotating two or three of these through the week is an easy way to broaden the diet without changing anything else about how you feed.
Warranty and delivery
It is not a defective-on-arrival item in the way a piece of equipment is, so there is no manufacturer warranty as such – the only guarantee that applies is the consumer guarantee under Australian Consumer Law that the food is of acceptable quality and matches its description. Keep the pack frozen until use and transfer it to your own freezer as soon as it arrives.
Frozen food is pick up only from our North Lakes store, because a pack that thaws on the way cannot be refrozen.
Common questions
Can I feed this to freshwater and marine fish from the same pack?
Yes. Brine shrimp is not species-specific, and this pack is sold for both freshwater and marine tanks.
Will this feed fry?
It suits juvenile and adult fish rather than newly hatched fry, which need something smaller such as baby brine shrimp nauplii or infusoria first.
How much should I feed?
Offer only what the fish will finish within about 5 minutes, 2 to 5 times a day, and remove uneaten food so it does not foul the water.
Can I refreeze a thawed portion?
No. Once a portion has thawed, feed it or discard it; refreezing lowers food safety and quality.
Does brine shrimp cloud the water?
Rinsing the thawed portion in tank water before adding it, and not overfeeding, keeps clouding to a minimum.
