Red Sea Reef Media Cup
Puts your filter media directly in the water path instead of sitting loose in a corner of the sump. The Red Sea Reef Media Cup is a drop-in replacement for a filter sock mount, holding a reusable media bag with slots that force water down through whatever you've loaded – carbon, GFO, biopellets or filter floss – rather than letting it bypass around the outside.
Key features
- Forces full contact with your media – slotted at the base so water has to pass through the bag, not around it.
- Fits existing filter sock mounting hardware – a cost-effective, reusable swap for disposable filter socks.
- Holds about 1 L of media – enough for a working charge of carbon, GFO, biopellets or a biological rubble media.
- Includes one REEF SPEC media bag – sized to the cup, ready to load.
Will it fit my tank?
Works with all Red Sea REEFER systems and most Red Sea MAX systems – the exception is the MAX Nano, which this cup doesn't fit. It's also compatible with most pre-made sumps that take a standard filter sock, since it mounts the same way a sock does.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: carbon, GFO, biopellets, filter floss and other bagged media, on REEFER and MAX (excluding MAX Nano) systems.
- Not suitable for: the MAX Nano, or sumps without a compatible sock-style mount.
Care and maintenance
Lift the cup out, swap or top up the media bag, and drop it back in – no need to disturb the rest of the sump. Replace or recharge media on the schedule the media itself specifies, since the cup only controls flow through it.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard shipping across Australia.
Common questions
Does this replace my filter sock or sit alongside it?
It replaces it – the cup mounts in the same spot a filter sock would, so you're not running both at once in that position.
What media can I put in it?
Anything bagged: carbon, GFO, biopellets, filter floss, or a biological rubble media. The slotted base is what forces flow through it, not the media type.
Will it fit my MAX Nano?
No – Red Sea specifically excludes the MAX Nano from this cup's compatibility. Check with us if you're not sure which MAX model you have.
