The Red Sea ReefGate Valve Upgrade Kit retrofits Red Sea's precision ReefGate gate valve into the downpipe of a REEFER G2 or Peninsula system. It's the same valve Red Sea now fits as standard on every REEFER G3 — this kit brings it to earlier G2-generation plumbing. Two kit versions are sold, matched to 32 mm (1") or 40 mm (1¼") downpipe, so the pipe lengths and reducers are already correct for your plumbing rather than something you have to source separately.

Measure the outside diameter of the pipe leaving your overflow chamber before ordering — 32 mm and 40 mm are Red Sea's two common downpipe sizes, and the wrong kit's reducers won't line up.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for REEFER G2 and Peninsula owners on 32 mm or 40 mm downpipe who want fine flow tuning or a proper shut-off point in the overflow line. Not needed on REEFER G3, which ships with the ReefGate valve already fitted. Not a confirmed fit for non-Red Sea sumps or third-party plumbing on other pipe diameters — measure first.
Care and maintenance
Being all-plastic, the valve doesn't need lubrication; if the handwheel becomes stiff, a light rinse to clear any salt creep from the thread is usually enough.
Safety
Installation involves cutting into pressurised drain plumbing — isolate or drain down the relevant section first, and have towels and a bucket ready for residual water in the pipe run.

What size downpipe do I have?
Measure the outside diameter of the pipe below your overflow chamber. 32 mm (1") and 40 mm (1¼") are Red Sea's two common sizes on Reefer and Peninsula systems.
Do I need to drain the display to fit this?
Not the display itself, but expect some water loss from the section of plumbing you're cutting into — have a bucket and towels ready.
Is this already fitted on my system?
If you own a REEFER G3, yes — it ships fitted as standard. G2 and Peninsula systems don't have it fitted and need this kit to add it.
Can I install this myself?
If you're comfortable cutting and solvent-welding PVC pipe, yes. Red Sea's kit doesn't include cutting instructions, so if you haven't done this before, a professional install is the safer option.
