Red Sea ReefRun G2 4000 DC Pump
Quiet, controllable DC return flow for compact systems. The Red Sea ReefRun G2 4000 is the entry point of Red Sea's DC return pump range, adjustable between 2,000 and 4,000 L/h with the same sine-wave DC motor and quiet running as the rest of the G2 line. Sold as a pump body only – it needs its own flow controller, purchased separately, before it will run.
Key features
- 2,000–4,000 L/h adjustable flow – dial return flow to match a nano or standard-size system rather than running an oversized pump throttled right down.
- Rated to 3.4 m of head – enough lift for most standard cabinet-and-sump setups.
- Sine-wave DC motor – designed by Red Sea for quiet running even at full speed, without the whine some AC pumps develop as they age.
- 180° rotatable outlet and universal fittings – hose barbs and threaded connectors sized for metric and US-standard piping, plus PVC adapters.
- Compact footprint – sized for Reefer and similarly compact sumps rather than large custom systems.

Red Sea's published documentation does not state this pump's weight or a dB noise figure. Ask us to confirm with Red Sea if either matters for your install.
What's included / Not included
In the box: the ReefRun G2 4000 pump, outlet fittings and its power supply. Not included: a flow controller, which Red Sea's documentation states is mandatory before the pump will run at all, regardless of whether you also add a ReefRun Dual DC Pump Controller for ReefBeat scheduling.
Which ReefRun G2 pump do I need?
| Model | Flow range | Max head | Power |
|---|---|---|---|
| ReefRun G2 4000 | 2,000–4,000 L/h | 3.4 m | 16–38 W |
| ReefRun G2 6000 | 3,600–6,500 L/h | 4.4 m | 22–56 W |
| ReefRun G2 8000 | 4,100–8,300 L/h | 5.3 m | 24–73 W |
| ReefRun G2 12000 | 5,000–12,000 L/h | 5.9 m | 33–105 W |
The 4000 suits nano and standard-size reef and marine tanks where turnover requirements are modest and the sump riser is short. Move up the range if your system needs more than 4,000 L/h at your actual plumbing head, not just at the pump face.
Performance
2,000–4,000 L/h is Red Sea's adjustable flow band at low head; real delivered flow falls as lift increases toward the 3.4 m maximum. Red Sea has not published the intermediate flow-at-head figures as a full curve – as a working assumption, expect flow toward the lower end of the adjustable range once you're above roughly 1.5–2 m of lift. Ask us for Red Sea's engineering data if you need the precise figure for your plumbing run.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to nano and standard-size reef and marine systems, and as a quiet, efficient upgrade over an old AC return pump. Not the right choice if your system needs more than 4,000 L/h of real delivered flow, or more than 3.4 m of head – step up to the G2 6000 or 8000 instead. Requires its own flow controller to operate.
Care and maintenance
Inspect and clean the impeller periodically, particularly with mineral-heavy top-off water or a heavy bioload. Keep the inlet flow guide clear so it can keep air out of the intake.
Safety
Mains-powered and rated for wet-area sump installation – run it from an RCD-protected circuit and keep a drip loop in the cable before any power point or power board.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's manufacturer warranty, in addition to your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a standard parcel item.
Goes well with
A ReefRun G2 4000 flow controller – mandatory, not optional, for this pump to run. Add a ReefRun Dual DC Pump Controller if you're pairing it with a second ReefRun pump or DC skimmer pump and want both on one ReefBeat schedule.
Common questions
Does this pump include a controller?
No. This is the pump body only – a matching ReefRun G2 4000 flow controller is required separately before it will run.
Will I get the full 4,000 L/h through my plumbing?
Only at very low head. Expect meaningfully less once the pump is lifting water through a sump riser and any elbows or fittings.
Is this the right pump for a nano tank?
Its adjustable range starts at 2,000 L/h, which is high turnover for a genuinely small nano – check your tank's recommended turnover before sizing up to this pump.
Can it run a DC skimmer pump on the same controller?
The pump itself needs its own flow controller regardless. A separate ReefRun Dual DC Pump Controller can then link this pump and a compatible DC skimmer pump together for shared ReefBeat scheduling.
