Red Sea Reefwave 25 Impeller Set
A worn impeller is usually why flow drops first. This is the genuine Red Sea impeller set (part number R35234) for the ReefWave 25 gyre wavemaker — the pump's main flow-generating wear part, and one Red Sea's own warranty terms list as a normal-wear item rather than a defect. Fitting a fresh set restores the ReefWave 25 to its full rated output; it does not fit the larger ReefWave 45, which uses its own impeller set (R35245).
Key features
- Genuine Red Sea impeller set, exact fit for the ReefWave 25 (RW25) only
- The primary wear part behind a gradual drop in flow
- Restores the pump to its full rated output
- Hand-fitted during routine service — the end cap and cage come off first, no tools needed for the impeller itself
- Pairs with the impeller cage set at the same service interval

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to a ReefWave 25 that has lost noticeable flow despite a clean impeller cage and housing. Not the fix for a pump that has stopped completely or become loud and rough-running — that points to the motor assembly or rotor shaft/magnet rather than the impeller alone.
Care and maintenance
Red Sea's manual calls for the impeller to come out and be cleaned monthly, alongside the cage — soak in a 10% household bleach solution (one part bleach to nine parts water) or scrub gently under running water. Switch the pump off at the app or controller and unplug the power supply before opening the housing.
Safety
The ReefWave's magnets are strong enough to cause a pinch injury, and can affect medical implants — keep the outer magnet at least 30 cm from anyone with a pacemaker or similar device, and take care with fingers while the pump is open.
Goes well with
Usually replaced alongside the impeller cage set and, on an older pump, the rotor shaft/magnet — or fitted as a set via Red Sea's ReefWave 25 Service Pack.
Warranty and delivery
Red Sea's 24-month warranty covers manufacturing defects in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law, but its terms specifically exclude impellers as a normal-wear item — a worn impeller from ordinary use isn't a warranty claim, which is exactly why a reasonably priced genuine replacement exists. Small and light — standard parcel delivery.
Common questions
How do I know it's the impeller and not the motor?
A gradual, creeping drop in flow with the pump still running smoothly and quietly usually points to the impeller. A pump that's gone noisy, rough or stopped altogether is more likely the motor assembly or rotor shaft.
Does this fit the ReefWave 45?
No — the ReefWave 45 takes its own impeller set, part number R35245.
Do I need any tools?
No. Once the end cap and impeller cage are off, the impeller lifts out and the new one presses in by hand.
