Reef Pure Colour Changing Co2 Filter Media 560gram
Scrubs CO2 from your skimmer's air intake to stop overnight pH sag. Reef Pure Colour Changing CO2 Media is a loose-fill, colour-indicating media that strips excess carbon dioxide from the air drawn into a protein skimmer — one of the most common and most overlooked causes of a reef tank sitting at pH 7.8 instead of 8.2 despite good alkalinity and regular water changes. Pack it into a compatible 10" x 2.5" canister, such as the Reef Pure Dual CO2 Reactor, and watch the colour change tell you exactly when it's spent.
Key features
- Colour-indicating fill — the media turns from white to violet as it exhausts, so replacement is a visual check, not a guess.
- Treats the air, not the water — it scrubs CO2 from the air feeding your skimmer before that air reaches the tank, rather than adding anything to the aquarium directly.
- Manufacturer-reported pH lift — Reef Pure's own testing reports pH rising from around 7.8 to 8.3 after a few days of continuous operation on a typical reef system.
- Standard canister fit — loose-fill format for any 10" x 2.5" filter housing, including the Reef Pure Dual CO2 Reactor.

Will it fit my setup?
You need a canister to hold it in — a 10" x 2.5" filter housing plumbed onto your protein skimmer's air intake line. The Reef Pure Dual CO2 Reactor is sized for exactly this media. If you already run a compatible housing from another brand, this media packs into it the same way.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: marine and reef systems running a protein skimmer, where low ambient air quality or a stuffy plant room is pulling tank pH down.
- Not suitable for: freshwater tanks (there's no skimmer air intake to fit it to), or as a fix for low pH caused by low alkalinity — this media addresses CO2 in the air supply, not a KH deficit in the water, and the two problems need different fixes.
What's included / Not included
The pack contains loose media only. It does not include a canister housing — you'll need the Reef Pure Dual CO2 Reactor or another 10" x 2.5" housing already plumbed to your skimmer.
Care and maintenance
Watch the colour: fresh media is white and turns violet as it's exhausted. Reef Pure doesn't publish a fixed replacement interval in weeks or months, because exhaustion rate depends on how much air your skimmer draws and how CO2-heavy that air is — the colour change is the accurate signal, not a calendar date.
Goes well with
Pair with the Reef Pure Dual CO2 Reactor if you don't already have a housing for it.
Warranty and delivery
As a consumable filter media, this isn't covered by a fixed-term warranty. If it arrives faulty or not as described, you're covered under Australian Consumer Law regardless. Standard shipping applies — no special freight handling is required for this item.
Common questions
What does this media actually remove?
It strips excess dissolved carbon dioxide from the air stream entering your protein skimmer, rather than treating the tank water directly.
Will it fix low pH on its own?
It addresses one common cause — CO2-heavy air reaching the skimmer — but won't correct low pH caused by insufficient alkalinity. Check your KH first if pH remains low after installing it.
How do I know when to replace it?
The media is colour-indicating: it starts white and turns violet as it exhausts. Replace it once the colour change is complete.
Does this go into my RO/DI unit?
No. Despite the Reef Pure RO brand name, this product treats skimmer air, not RO/DI water. It has no role in your reverse osmosis or deionisation stages.
