ReefSense Salinity & Temperature Probe
Salinity drift is slow, and that's exactly why it's easy to miss. The Red Sea ReefSense Salinity & Temperature Probe tracks both continuously and streams live readings to the ReefBeat app through a ReefControl Lite or Pro controller, so evaporation creep or a heater fault shows up before your livestock feels it. It's an add-on probe — it needs a ReefControl controller to run.
Key features
- Continuous salinity and temperature — salinity accurate to ±1%, temperature accurate to 0.05°C, read live rather than checked with a refractometer once a week.
- 4-pole conductivity sensor — the same measurement principle behind lab-grade conductivity meters, built into a probe that plugs straight into ReefControl.
- Choose your display units — read salinity as PSU (ppt), mS or specific gravity, whichever you already think in.
- No routine recalibration — Red Sea rates it to hold calibration through normal use; only a clean requires a fresh calibration, and the solution for that is included.
- Trend history and alerts — ReefBeat logs readings over time and can flag you the moment salinity or temperature drifts.

What's included / Not included
In the box: one ReefSense Salinity & Temperature Probe, plus calibration solution for use after cleaning.
Not included: the ReefControl Lite or Pro controller this probe plugs into and depends on. Without a controller, this probe has no way to display or log a reading.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for marine and reef systems already running, or being set up with, a ReefControl Lite or Pro controller — a reliable second check on top-up and salt-mixing habits.
Not suitable as a handheld spot-check meter — it's a fixed, wired probe for continuous in-tank monitoring, not a portable refractometer replacement for mixing new saltwater.
Care and maintenance
Unlike the pH and ORP probes in the ReefSense range, this one is not an electrode-type wear item — it doesn't need routine recalibration. Clean it periodically as biofilm builds up on the sensor face, and recalibrate with the included solution afterwards; otherwise leave it running.
Goes well with
- ReefControl Lite or Pro — the controller this probe requires to operate.
- ReefSense pH & Temp Probe and ReefSense ORP Probe — build a fuller water chemistry picture on the same controller.
- ReefSense Magnetic 4-Probe Holder — mounts this probe alongside up to three others at a consistent depth.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's 24-month warranty — longer than the 6-month cover on the pH and ORP probes, because this sensor has no wearing electrode — in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Small, lightweight item — standard parcel delivery.
Common questions
Does this probe need recalibrating like the pH probe does?
No. It holds its calibration through normal use and only needs recalibrating after you clean it — unlike the pH and ORP probes, which are wear items on a roughly 12-month cycle.
What units can I read salinity in?
PSU (ppt), mS or specific gravity — pick whichever your existing routine already uses.
Do I need a ReefControl controller for this to work?
Yes. It plugs into one ReefSense port on a ReefControl Lite or Pro controller and has no independent display of its own.
Why does this probe get a longer warranty than the ORP or pH probes?
It uses a conductivity sensor rather than a wearing electrode, so Red Sea backs it with the same 24-month warranty as the leak detector, rather than the 6-month wear-item cover on the pH and ORP probes.
