Spider Wood Small
A single Spider Wood branch sized for nano and shrimp tanks. Bioscape Spider Wood Small is one hand-picked piece of fine, twisting root wood in the 20-30 cm grade – the smallest size in Bioscape's Spider Wood range, built to add a delicate tree or root-tangle structure to a small footprint.
Key features
- 20-30 cm grade – the smallest size in Bioscape's Spider Wood range, sitting below Medium (30-40 cm) and Large (40-50 cm).
- Sold as a single piece – this listing is one branch, not a box; buy it alone as an accent or pick up several to build a fuller scape.
- Slender, twisting branches – fine root-and-branch shapes suited to tree-style layouts, moss and fern attachment, and shrimp-tank hardscaping.
- Lower tannin release – noticeably less tannin than Mopani or Malaysian driftwood, so water tinting is milder.
- Every piece unique – natural product; shape and colour vary piece to piece, and the listing photo is a representative sample.

Which size do I need?
| Grade | Length | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 20-30 cm | Nano and shrimp tanks, or a fine accent branch in a larger scape |
| Medium | 30-40 cm | Nano to mid-size layouts wanting a real structural feature |
| Large | 40-50 cm | Standard to larger tanks wanting a fuller tree structure |
Bioscape grades Spider Wood by branch length. Small, this listing, is scaled for nano and shrimp tanks or for adding one fine accent branch to a bigger scape – buy two or three if you want to build a small root-tangle rather than a single feature piece. Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater aquascaping, particularly nano and shrimp tanks, and also used in reptile enclosures and terrarium or paludarium builds. Bioscape doesn't publish a marine-safe claim for Spider Wood, so treat it as a freshwater and terrarium product rather than a reef-safe one.
Care and maintenance
New Spider Wood is dried for shipping and floats. Weighting the piece down for about a week is usually enough for it to waterlog and sit on its own, though denser pieces can take longer. Presoaking or boiling speeds up sinking and helps reduce tannin release. A harmless white biofilm sometimes forms on new wood underwater – it isn't dangerous, and shrimp, snails and some fish will graze it off.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing and packing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
How many pieces do I get?
One piece, in the Small, 20-30 cm grade.
Will it turn my water brown?
Some tannin release is normal with any natural wood, but Bioscape's Spider Wood releases noticeably less than Mopani or Malaysian driftwood. Presoaking or boiling reduces it further.
Is this a good size for a shrimp tank?
Yes – the fine branching of the Small grade suits nano and shrimp-tank hardscaping well, either alone as an accent piece or in multiples for a fuller layout.
Does it float?
Yes, initially. New wood is dried for shipping and needs weighting down until it waterlogs, which typically takes around a week but can vary by piece.
