Bioscape Limewood Airstone Carded

Extra-fine bubbles from a block of wood, not a moulded diffuser. Bioscape's Limewood Airstone is a small block of porous limewood that breaks airline output into a fine mist of bubbles — a simple upgrade over a standard plastic airstone, and a common swap-in for the airstone inside a protein skimmer.

Key features
  • Fine bubble output — the porous wood grain produces noticeably finer bubbles than a moulded plastic or ceramic airstone.
  • Skimmer-grade replacement — a common substitute for the factory airstone inside a protein skimmer, where finer bubbles mean more surface area for the skim.
  • Compact — a 5 cm block on a 2 cm square cross-section, small enough for nano tanks and tight skimmer bodies.
  • Single carded unit — sold on its own card, ready to attach to airline.

What you'll still need

This is the airstone only — you'll need an air pump and airline tubing to run it, and a check valve if it's mounted below the waterline.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for freshwater and marine tanks needing extra-fine aeration, and as a direct swap into most protein skimmers. Not a filtration or biological media product — it aerates and diffuses air, nothing more.

Care and maintenance

Wood airstones lose fineness as the pores clog with biofilm and mineral deposits — bubbles noticeably coarsen or airflow drops as this happens. Bioscape doesn't publish a fixed replacement interval; treat coarsening bubbles or a drop in flow as the sign it's due for swapping, rather than working to a calendar date.

Warranty and delivery

Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a small carded item by standard parcel post.

Common questions

How long does a limewood airstone last?

Bioscape doesn't publish a specific interval — it depends on bioload and how much biofilm builds up in the pores. Coarser bubbles or reduced flow is the practical sign it needs replacing.

Will this work in my protein skimmer?

It's commonly used as a skimmer airstone replacement, but check your skimmer's airstone housing size against the 5 cm x 2 cm block before ordering.

Does it need soaking before use?

Bioscape doesn't publish a soak step for this product — rinse before use and it's ready to attach to airline.

Can I use it in a freshwater tank as well as marine?

Yes — it's sold as a general aeration airstone suited to both freshwater and marine setups.
