Exo Terra All Glass Low Terrarium - 45 x 45 x 30cm
More than twice the floor of a cube, in the same low profile.
The Exo Terra All Glass Low Terrarium (45 × 45 × 30 cm / 18 × 18 × 12 in) is a front-opening glass enclosure built around floor space rather than height. It gives roughly 2,025 cm² of usable ground – a square footprint that lets a ground-dwelling animal move away from the warm end. The Exo Terra Rock Terrarium Background is included.
Key features
- Square 45 × 45 cm footprint – roughly 2,025 cm² of floor, so a terrestrial animal can put real distance between the basking spot and the cool end.
- Raised waterproof base – the bottom plate sits clear of the surface for a substrate heater, and holds a deep or damp substrate without leaking.
- Extra-high fixed front window – lets you run a deeper substrate layer or a shallow water section without it spilling past the doors.
- Dual front-opening doors – side access rather than reaching down over the animal, which reads as a predator approach.
- Removable stainless steel mesh top – UVB and infrared pass through, and the whole screen lifts off for a full strip-down.
- Front window ventilation – air is drawn across the inside of the front glass to keep condensation off the panel you view through.
- Five closable wire and tube inlets – probes, heat mat cables and misting lines pass through without leaving a gap.
- Lockable doors and easy-twist screen lock – the two points an animal will test.

This 45 cm model is the entry point to the Low range. Its square footprint suits a corner-to-corner layout rather than a long run. If your species needs a distinct warm and cool end along one axis, the 60 × 45 × 30 cm Low gives you a third more floor and a longer axis to build the gradient along, at the same height. The 30 cm Mini Wide is the step down.
What you can mount above it
The screen top is where lamps go, so lamp-to-animal distance is set by the enclosure height. At 30 cm external height this is a low enclosure, and that limits which lamps are safe on it.
| Where the animal sits | Approximate distance below the screen top |
|---|---|
| On the substrate | Under 30 cm |
| On a hide or rock around 8 cm high | Under 22 cm |
| On a raised basking platform around 15 cm | Under 15 cm |
Read those against the minimum mounting distance and the UV index chart for the lamp you intend to use. Most compact UVB lamps quote their target UV index at 20 to 30 cm, which this enclosure can just about give at substrate level and cannot give from a raised basking site. Exo Terra does not publish an internal clear height, so measure the built terrarium before you buy a lamp.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for
- Ground-dwelling species whose published minimum footprint fits inside 45 × 45 cm
- Deep-substrate and burrowing setups, thanks to the extra-high front pane
- Bioactive builds with a drainage layer
- Low-level UVB species, where a lamp can sit at 20 to 30 cm from the animal
Not suitable for
- Arboreal species that climb – 30 cm of height gives almost no vertical range
- Species needing a high-output UVB lamp mounted well back from the animal
- Two animals sharing, unless your species' guidance specifically allows it at this footprint
- Adult monitors, large skinks or any animal that outgrows a 45 cm square
- Fully aquatic housing – the base is watertight, but this is not an aquarium
Care and maintenance
- Spot-clean daily and strip the substrate on the interval your species and substrate call for.
- Take the screen off with the twist lock before deep cleaning – it is much easier than working through the doors.
- Use a reptile-safe glass cleaner. Ammonia-based household cleaners leave residue an animal will later sit on.
- Check the door locks and screen lock every time you close up. A low enclosure is easy to become casual about.
- Rinse mineral deposits off the stainless mesh when you strip the enclosure, especially in a misted setup.
Goes well with
- Eco Tech EZY SET Digital Thermostat – mandatory for any heat mat or heat lamp on this enclosure.
- Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 Desert Compact Fluorescent – a compact UVB lamp sized for a low enclosure.
- Zoo Med Desert Sand – a loose arid substrate that suits the deep front pane.
- Eco Tech Dual Probe Digital Thermometer – shows both ends of the gradient, which is the only way to prove one exists across 45 cm.
- Exo Terra Low Terrarium 60 × 45 × 30 cm – the next size up in the same height.
Warranty, delivery and Australian notes
Exo Terra warrants this terrarium against defects in materials and workmanship. Any manufacturer warranty applies in addition to the consumer guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law, which cannot be excluded.
Glass item, shipped as fragile. Check the carton for damage as soon as it arrives, before unpacking.
The enclosure has no electrical parts and carries no approval marking of its own. Anything you add must be 240 V, 50 Hz with an Australian plug, and every heat source must be run through a thermostat.
Common questions
How deep a substrate can the Exo Terra Low Terrarium 45 x 45 x 30 cm hold?
The front pane is fixed and extra-high specifically so substrate can sit above the door line without spilling out when the doors open. Exo Terra does not publish the pane height, so measure it before ordering substrate by volume.
Can I build a proper thermal gradient in a 45 cm enclosure?
Across 45 cm you can create a warm end and a cool end, but the difference will be smaller than in a 60 or 90 cm enclosure. Use a dual-probe thermometer to confirm both ends before an animal goes in, and step up a size if your species needs a wide gradient.
Is the background glued in?
No. The Rock Terrarium Background is a separate panel that sits against the rear glass and can be cut for wires and tubing, so you can trim or remove it.
Can I stack two of these?
Exo Terra does not publish a stacking load rating for this model, so treat stacking as unsupported. Use a rack or cabinet that carries the weight independently.
Does it come with a hood or canopy?
No. The terrarium ships with a stainless steel screen top only. Lighting sits on or above that screen and is bought separately.
Will a heat mat fit underneath?
Yes. The bottom frame is raised so a mat can sit under the glass with an air gap. Always run it through a thermostat, with the probe inside the enclosure rather than against the mat.
