Exo Terra Feeding Dish
Keeps food off the substrate, and substrate out of your reptile. The Exo Terra Feeding Dish is a low, rock-finish bowl moulded from food-grade resin rather than clay or glazed ceramic, holding food clear of sand and bedding to cut the risk of substrate ingestion – a common cause of gut impaction in lizards fed straight off the floor. It's available in Medium, Large and Extra Large, sized to the animal rather than the enclosure.
Key features
- Food-grade resin construction – moulded, not glazed, with a natural rock-look finish that blends into a desert or tropical scape.
- Non-porous, coated interior – the smooth surface resists absorbing bacteria and food residue, unlike raw stone or unglazed ceramic.
- Low profile – easy access for geckos, skinks and juvenile dragons that won't climb over a tall rim.
- Built-in escape steps – small animals that end up inside the dish (crickets, hatchlings) can climb back out rather than being trapped.
- Stable base – resists tipping when a larger reptile pushes against the rim.
Specifications
| Size | SKU | Suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | CHL19 | Geckos, skinks, juvenile dragons |
| Large | CHL20 | Adult bearded dragons, larger skinks |
| Extra Large | CHL21 | Large monitors, adult water dragons |
Exo Terra doesn't publish exact bowl dimensions for this range – the size names above are the manufacturer's own tier names, and photos show the relative scale.
Which size do I need?
Match the dish to the animal rather than the tank: a Medium suits most geckos and juveniles, Large fits an adult bearded dragon comfortably, and Extra Large is built for monitors and larger water dragons where a smaller bowl would tip or be outgrown quickly.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to feeding insects, greens or prepared diets to any terrestrial reptile or amphibian. Not intended as a water dish – Exo Terra sells a separate Water Dish range with a deeper profile for that job.
Care and maintenance
Wipe or wash after each feed – the coated surface is designed to release food residue rather than absorb it, so it doesn't need soaking or scrubbing to come clean. Disinfect periodically with a reptile-safe cleaner.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships standard.
Common questions
Is this dish ceramic?
No – Exo Terra makes this range from food-grade resin with a rock-look finish, not glazed ceramic. The resin is what gives it the non-porous, bacteria-resistant coating.
Can I use it for water instead of food?
It's shaped for feeding rather than holding water long-term. Exo Terra's separate Water Dish range has a deeper profile better suited to that job.
Will a large reptile tip it over?
The base is designed to be stable under a pushing or climbing animal, which is one of the specific problems this range is built to solve over a lightweight bowl.
What happens if an insect ends up inside the dish?
The built-in steps let crickets and other feeders climb back out rather than being trapped and dying in the dish.
