Fluval Fine Pre Filter Cartridge G6
Fine, 75-micron filtration for the Fluval G6 — the largest cartridge in the Fluval G-series line-up. This washable pleated cartridge sits in the G6's mechanical stage, polishing water clear for marine tanks running light bioloads, or for freshwater and planted set-ups.
Will it fit my filter?
This cartridge (Fluval part A418) is sized for the Fluval G6 Advanced Filtration System only. The smaller Fluval G3 uses a different, smaller fine cartridge (Fluval A417, sold separately) — the two are not interchangeable.
Key features
- 75-micron pleated mesh — captures fine suspended debris the standard-stage foam passes through.
- No-bypass pleated design — water is forced through the pleats rather than around them.
- Washable and reusable — rinse and refit rather than replace after every clean.
- Sized for the G6 — the larger of Fluval's two G-series filters, rated for tanks from roughly 300–600 L.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the Fluval G6 only. Not suitable for the Fluval G3, which needs its own fine cartridge (Fluval A417). If you don't need the extra polishing stage, the standard (non-fine) G6 pre-filter, Fluval A416, is the coarser alternative.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Nick's Aquarium Oceanarium Terrarium's standard returns policy in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships from our North Lakes, QLD warehouse.
Common questions
What's the difference between this and the standard G6 pre-filter?
The standard G6 pre-filter (Fluval A416) is the coarser first-stage media. This fine cartridge (A418) adds a 75-micron polishing pass for clearer water — useful for marine tanks or anyone chasing crystal-clear water.
How often do I need to replace it?
You don't need to replace it on a schedule — it's washable and reusable. Rinse it roughly every 14 days and only buy a new one if the mesh tears or degrades.
Will this fit my Fluval G3?
No. The G3 takes its own, smaller fine pre-filter cartridge, Fluval A417.
What tank size is the G6 filter rated for?
Fluval rates the G6 Advanced Filtration System for aquariums from roughly 300 to 600 litres, circulating around 1,000 L/h at 27–28 W.
