Fluval Flex Aquarium Poly Cartridge for 34 & 57 ltr 2.0 (3)
Genuine Fluval Poly-Carb cartridge, the combined mechanical and chemical filtration stage for the Flex 2.0 range. This 3-pack fits both the Flex 2.0 34 L and 57 L aquarium kits, polishing the water and pulling out odours, discolouration and dissolved impurities that the foam stage alone can't catch.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval part A1407 — the correct Poly-Carb cartridge for the Flex 2.0 filtration chamber, not a generic carbon pad.
- Two jobs in one cartridge — the polyester fibre traps fine particles the foam block misses, while the activated carbon bonded through it removes odours, discolouration and dissolved organics.
- Fits both Flex 2.0 sizes — the same cartridge works in the 34 L and 57 L kits, so you only need to remember one part number.
- Three-pack — at Fluval's recommended monthly-ish replacement rate, this covers roughly two to three months.

Will it fit my tank?
Fluval lists this cartridge as compatible with both Flex 2.0 kits — the 9 US Gal/34 L (Item #15050) and the 15 US Gal/57 L (Item #15052) — so the same 3-pack works whichever size you own. It is not listed as compatible with the original (non-2.0) Fluval Flex range, which uses its own separate media.
Is this the same as a plain carbon pad?
No. It's a single cartridge that combines mechanical straining with chemical (carbon) filtration, sitting in the media stack after the foam block and before the BIOMAX biological media.
Care and maintenance
Because the carbon inside becomes chemically exhausted well before the cartridge looks dirty, rinsing doesn't restore it the way it does the foam block. Fluval recommends replacing the cartridge every 2 to 4 weeks rather than rinsing and reusing it.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the Fluval Flex 2.0 34 L and 57 L kits, freshwater or saltwater. Not suitable for the original (non-2.0) Fluval Flex range or any other Fluval tank.
Goes well with
- Fluval Flex 2.0 57L Foam Filter Block — the mechanical stage that sits ahead of this cartridge in the same filter chamber (34L foam sold separately).
- Fluval BIOMAX Rings — the biological media stage further along the same filter chamber.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Fluval's standard consumer guarantees. As a consumable, this item sits outside the aquarium kit's own extended warranty terms. These rights are in addition to any remedies available to you under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
Does this fit my Flex 34L or my Flex 57L?
Both — Fluval's Poly-Carb cartridge is a single part that fits the filtration chamber in either Flex 2.0 size.
How often should I replace it?
Every 2 to 4 weeks. The carbon component loses its ability to absorb odours and discolouration well before the cartridge looks visibly dirty, so replacing on a schedule matters more than replacing on appearance.
Can I rinse it instead of replacing it?
You can rinse light debris off in tank water between changes, but this won't recharge the exhausted carbon — a full replacement on Fluval's 2 to 4 week schedule is still needed for the chemical filtration to keep working.
Will this fit the original Fluval Flex?
Fluval doesn't list it as compatible with the original (non-2.0) Flex range, which uses a different filtration insert.
