Hikari Micro Wafers

A slow-sinking wafer sized for small and medium tropical fish that miss out on floating food. Hikari Micro Wafers is a 44% protein diet that sinks slowly through the water column, giving mid-water and bottom-oriented feeders – tetras, livebearers, smaller cichlids and catfish – a fair chance at a meal in a mixed community tank.

Where flake and floating pellets get taken by the fastest fish at the surface, a slow-sinking wafer spreads feeding across the tank, which matters most in tanks that mix surface feeders with shyer or slower species.

Key features
  • Slow-sinking wafer, approximately 1.2–1.4 mm – small enough for community-sized mouths, sinks gradually rather than dropping straight to the substrate.
  • 44% crude protein minimum – a high-protein base for active community fish.
  • Colour and vitality actives – spirulina, astaxanthin and garlic support natural colour and feeding response.
  • Reaches mid-water and bottom feeders – suits catfish and cichlids that rarely compete for surface food.

Feeding directions

Feed two to three times daily, only as much as fish will fully consume within about a minute. Remove any uneaten wafer rather than letting it sit on the substrate, since leftover food is the main driver of water quality problems in a tank stocked with bottom feeders.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: tetras, livebearers, African and smaller American cichlids, and catfish.
  • Not suitable for: fish with dietary restrictions around shellfish-derived ingredients, since this recipe includes krill meal and clam extract.
Goes well with
  • Hikari Micro Pellets, to add a surface and mid-water option alongside this sinking wafer.
  • A gravel vacuum or siphon, to lift any uneaten wafer out of the substrate between water changes.
  • A quality water conditioner for tanks running a mixed feeding routine across multiple food types.
Warranty and delivery

Sold with the manufacturer's standard shelf life when stored in a cool, dry place with the bag sealed between feeds, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery Australia-wide; no cold-chain requirement.

Common questions

Will this food reach the bottom of my tank?

Yes – it is a slow-sinking wafer, not a floating food, so it drifts down through the water column and is well suited to catfish and other bottom-oriented feeders as well as mid-water fish.

Can I feed this alongside a floating flake?

Yes – many keepers run a floating food for surface feeders and a slow-sinking food like this one for the rest of the tank, so every level gets fed.

Is it suitable for shrimp-safe or vegetarian setups?

No – the recipe includes fish, krill and clam-derived ingredients, so it is not a vegetarian or fish-free formula.

How long does an unopened bag keep?

Store it in a cool, dry place with the bag sealed between feeds; Hikari does not publish an exact shelf-life figure for this product, so check the best-before date printed on your pack.
