Insectivore Algae Wafer
Balanced grazing nutrition, not just algae. Insectivore Algae Wafers pack spirulina, seaweed and kelp together with fish and shrimp protein into a slow-sinking wafer, giving plecos, ancistrus and other grazing fish the mixed diet they actually need rather than a straight vegetable disc. The wafers hold their shape while fish rasp at them, and come in 40 g and 100 g packs.
Key features
- Spirulina, seaweed and kelp base – plant matter grazing fish recognise and dig into
- Herring meal, fish and shrimp protein – covers the animal protein a purely vegetable diet leaves out
- 15 mm sinking wafers – reach the substrate where plecos, loaches and catfish feed
- Holds together underwater – doesn't disintegrate before grazing fish get to it
- 46% protein, 4% fat – see the full guaranteed analysis below

Feeding directions
Feed once or twice daily, offering only as much as fish can consume within several minutes. Allow the wafer to sink before feeding rather than leaving it to break up at the surface. Remove any uneaten wafer and store the pack in a cool, dry place.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suits plecos, ancistrus, algae eaters, loaches, catfish and other herbivorous or omnivorous bottom-dwelling fish that graze. Not a complete diet on its own for strongly carnivorous fish, which need a protein-led food such as Insectivore Bottom Tablets instead.
Storage
Store sealed, in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Reseal the pack fully between feeds to keep the wafers from softening.
Goes well with
Pairs well with Insectivore Bottom Tablets for mixed bottom-dweller communities that include non-grazing catfish, and with a surface or mid-water flake such as Insectivore Tropical Flake Food where the tank also holds schooling fish.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law in addition to any manufacturer undertakings. Ships as a standard, ambient dry good with no special freight handling required.
Common questions
Will the wafer cloud my water?
Not if you feed to appetite. Leftover wafer breaks down and clouds water within a day or two, so remove anything uneaten after a few hours.
Can I feed this as the only food in the tank?
For a tank of grazing fish only, yes. If the tank also holds fish that don't graze the substrate, add a flake or pellet suited to them as well.
Is this suitable for shrimp?
Shrimp will pick at softened wafer fragments, but it isn't formulated as a dedicated shrimp food. A shrimp-specific food is a better primary diet if shrimp are the main livestock.
Why does the 100 g pack cost less per gram than the 40 g pack?
Buying the larger 100 g pack works out cheaper per gram than the 40 g pack – the better buy if you're feeding a tank of grazers regularly.
